Default XJR lowering springs

Looking for recommendations "stateside" I see Mina gallery has some but wanted to hear if anyone has first hand experience with any. The XJR-100 has one flaw, it's too high. The 19" wheels add to this but there is just too much space in the wells and a lowering of an inch would give it a more appropriate stance and take up some of the visual space between the road and the side sills. IMHO

There is a company in the UK that makes them to your desire. Check ebay.co.uk. Forgotten their name though...

Here you go:
Jaguar XJ XJ8 XJR XJ-R X308 Performance Lowered Uprated Road Springs 1997 - 2003 | eBay

I read that Mina Gallery springs are not (or not much) lower than our sagged, ~15 years old suspension, but I have no direct experience.
There are several threads, incl. the one from Greverr, who decided to cut his own.

There is also a set from Jamex available in Japan, which claims -40mm.
From all I have researched, they offer the biggest drop.

No they don't. A 19" wheel with 255 35 19 tires is exactly the same height as an 18" wheel with 255 40 18 tires. Actually, you're 0.3mm lower.

The front end of my 98 XJR sits 1/2" lower than the 100.
The 98 has 130,000 miles vs the 100's 18,000. So maybe some age sag?
That's measuring wheel center to fender lip.

Actually they are the same, further more is it your personal goal to contradict everything posted on this forum? Do you take pleasure in pointing out flaws in people's posts? I asked for an opinion on lowering springs NOT weather or not my 19" wheels really made a difference in ride height. Keep your short sighted observations to yourself, if you've got something POSITIVE to add to the discussion then great. If not it would be appreciated if you keep it off the thread I started.

Heck with it, another one for the "ignore list". Thanks to all those who chimed in with actual help. I was pretty sure i said the 19" wheels added to it, IMHO (in my humble opinion) ie, its more a visual thing, not an actuality thing.

It's the nature of forums. There will always be those who's opinion you don't care to hear...

As stated above, because I had heard of and seen so many sets of Mina springs either maintain the same height and then be cut, I experimented by modifying my springs, cutting them marginally and grinding them down so they fit flat in the perch.

If the project failed I was going to buy the Mina's and probably end up cutting them as well.
Haven't looked back after 4 years, only slightly firmer ride if at all.

I have lost my notes of exact cuts I executed, but I recall it was one full spring plus 1.5'' of coil on the front and just shy of one entire coil on the rear. Then ground down the rounded surface of the spring so it sat in the perch flat.

I cut the top of the springs btw.

Before cutting with a 19x8.5 et15 245/40-19 mounted for reference

The difference is I was clear in my "Camary" comment was purely in jest. Thus the "sorry, couldn't resist" tag line. Others are here just to boost their self inflated ego's. If you did take offense (maybe it wasn't clear to some) to my "Camary" comment I do apologize , it was just meant as good natured ribbing, no malice was intended.

That's usable info! The reason I asked in the first place is that my son bought me "lowering" springs for my TR-6 last Christmas. He was dumb founded as the ride height remained as it was after I installed them. I pointed out to him that the original springs had sagged since 1976 and were now the height of the "lowered" springs.

I can confirm the Mina Springs did not lower the front as much as age sag did to my 1998 XJR. The ride is noticeably nicer, but one of these days I plan to chop a coil off to get the front lowered to my satisfaction. I can take a photo later of how the Mina springs look.

The springs did help the back though. With the lowered wheel well lip, the springs eliminated the gap.

I too cut my springs on my old 40, and likely will with the 308 down the road once I know what the ride height will be. The key was to do it in increments, which was extremely time consuming, I won't be as conservative when I do the 308.

I did a full coil, then half a coil at a time - reinstalling and checking ride height every time. Also I would square the top off so it sat in the perch correctly.

I know the original post wasn't about cutting springs, but just wanted to put my $0.02 out there. There's plenty of nay sayers, but by design shortening the spring ups the rate, they work just fine for me.

Just for clarification so people don't start dumping their X308s which is totally cool too IMO.......on my front springs I cut one full coil plus about 1.5 inches off the next coil, NOT 1+1.5 entire coils. Just short of one full coil on the rear. Just a clarification!

I'm sure others could cut more aggressively if desired, but I had to watch out with my wheel and tire size

With asteroids, mine sits a lot like greverrr's finished product.

All it takes is 255/45R18 tires and some sagged Euro spec R springs.

Here my new Arden suspension kit. Front could be a bit lower. Tires just 25" high. With 26" would look better. Ride quality is excellent.

The 255/45R18's I mentioned are 27 inch diameter.

The speedometer calibration is now exact.

Default regular vs sport springs

Hey guys, I just get springs from XJ sport model. They seem to be a bit harder than the regular one. Maybe you know how much approximately it will lower my XJ8?

I presume the Sport rides at the European XJR heights, but not 100% sure.

Having said that, I am rather sure (but can't prove) that the whole ride height differences (at least between the EU XJR and the US XJR) was done by using the different height of spring-packers.

If you check any on line parts list, you will see that there are 2 different heights available for front and rear, and they are not used both, just one or the other on top of the spring.

Might be interesting to see what comes out of yours.
