Default XJR radiator- is it made of gold?

Why are these radiators so expensive lol. The prices I'm seeing for 1999 are minimum 500$ new. Lots of sites are in the 750$-$1200 range (yes for a plastic with core radiator). Is there something I'm missing here or does someone know where to find a less expensive replacement? For comparison, the 2004 xjr radiator is 160$.

I'm finishing up the engine swap on the 1999 I have. I took her for a test run yesterday after pressure testing the coolant system and fixing a few hose leaks. Was holding 20psi no problem but that was with the car off. After driving for a few minutes I had a coolant explosion at the front passenger side. Identified the leak to be coming from behind the clinch tabs where the plastic tank is joined to the core of the radiator.

Have you gone to a radiator repair place to see if they can find you one at a reasonable price? I have a place hear in Orlando called Prater Radiator, they've replaced and repaired radiators for me, they would rather try to get you a new unit vs them repairing it if the cost isn't that different. Perhaps you have a similar one near you? They should be able to do size and year comparison for you also.
Have you checked The Marketplace to see if anyone has one they are parting out?

can you tell me how much they charged you for repair?

there are used ones on eBay for 250$. Seems kind of crazy since the '04 rads are 160$ New. I just don't understand lol.

I think there is 1 or 2 repair places near me I will have to call during the week to see what they would do for me. My situation may just be easier to buy a used one

The repairs they've done for me were on my Expedition and my Corvette. The Corvette they replaced the bowls and the Expy they sold me a new unit. Recently (4 months ago) they pressure checked my Vette's A/C radiator and cleaned it up (I think they acid dipped it?) and resprayed it for $75.
There are a couple of shops who build radiators I saw online, one in particular did Jags, but they only listed them up to '96, but it couldn't hurt to check with them. https://wizardcooling.com/

This was another that wasn't specific to its builds. Custom / Fabrication - Radiator Supply House

I had a problem with my radiator on my 1998 XJ, was fitting the lower trans cooler pipe and the joint just 'fell away' from the radiator.

Tried to see if it could be repaired but I was told it was impossible as the surround was plastic, and the joint could not be soldered back to the inner cooler tank. Ended up getting a 2nd hand one from a local Jag beakers, £60 (which is around $80). Eurojag in the UK, best place ever for replacement 2nd hand parts, they ship all over the world? not sure of repairs in the USA, but happy to send you the phone number here in the UK if it becomes desperate?

i checked their site ENGINE COOLING & AIR CONDITIONING parts from Eurojag for Jaguar® parts and spares - Eurojag Limited

it does not appear they have any xjr radiators, and the prices of the radiators that they do have are much more than 60 euro as of today.

I am thinking the same thing about the plastic end tank. im not sure that those parts are usually able to be repaired

Strange, I only got mine a week ago but I have had a lot of parts from them, a £400 gearbox a few weeks ago, so maybe I got a good deal? Sorry, I thought they might have one for your XJR.

I'm guessing it's the same reason x308 xjr pulleys are 1200 and x350 pulleys are 200ish - the 308 part is NLA and the few vendors that do have them available jack prices up significantly.

It's usually best to phone but I appreciate I live in the UK not 6 miles from them. There's nowhere near the parts advertised online to what they have onsite, there's at least 300 vehicles so listing and keeping a tab on all parts available would be a logistical nightmare, my radiator wasn't advertised but I phoned and picked it up after an hour when they had removed it.

I realise that you are nowhere near Eurojag, I only suggested them as a desperate measure should it become necessary. However, if I can help a fellow Jag enthusiast I would be happy to contact them on your behalf and post back for you on price and availability? You are welcome to PM me if it helps?

As euphonium01 states, in order to help out, here's a site to try... Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market ...once you put in your request, you'll get responses from various areas. Be sure to check each respondents warranty offer, ..if any. I got my fiancés (43k mile) engine for her Saturn Sky off this site after she decided to become a U-boat commander (hydro locked it) for an $8 snack she just had to have in a massive downpour. But I hold no bitterness at all toward this $1700 incident...

You would get significantly more parts available if you searched for an XJ8 radiator. I'm about 99% sure that they are the same exact radiator.

can I ask what snack it was?

I found a few places within DRIVING distance that have radiators listed under XJ8. I'm not sure if these are the same as the supercharged version. There is a part number stamped ontop of the rad. but are there other rad #'s that are still compatible? I figure if they have the pipes and holes all in the same place, it would work. Did they change them over the years?

I noticed jag-bits lists radiators with different part numbers after different vins. Jagbits Jaguar Parts: Radiator

I don't get any other eBay results for that, however see my above response about the junkyard listings. There are a number of different part numbers and im not sure how to know if 1 will work with the other

.... resurrecting an old thread.

Anyone found a good all metal radiator for the 2003 XJR? My (radiator) neck snapped!

Jaguar uses the last 6 digits of your VIN for parts.
Using J-PART I see 3 different part numbers depending on the VIN?

You have the 4.0L? 4.2L I think?

Take a look at this $99 radiator? Does yours look anything like that?

It looks like it's the same radiator for both XJ8 and XJR, however please
correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, they’re both the same. If you really can’t find a replacement radiator, you could send yours to wizardcooling.com (I believe in NY) and have them remake it for you in all aluminum. Not cheap but it’s a quality unit when you get it back.

Oops! Yes for your car 5 digits.
Here is what I am seeing in JPART. But again you did not post the VIN numbers so we are not sure?

Do any of the above VIN's include your car?
Now I do see a strange part number when searching the factory Jaguar parts?
MNC4190AH

I have never seen such a number from Jaguar? But that might be another part number to look at?
