Default XJR vs. XKR motor swap

I am replacing the motor in my 2000 XJR and was sold a motor that turns out to be a XKR motor (2000). My tech is saying there is a problem mating the xkr motor to the xjr transmission. Has anyone had this swap done and have you had any problems mating to the trans? Spent a pretty good sum on the motor and need my bad cat back!!!

HELP!!!

yeh, should drop right in as Brutal says, I sold an XJR engine, and it's now powering an XKR very successfully. Tell him to get it done or you'll go somewhere they can do it. Unless as Brutal says, there's more to it.

Default Thanks!!!

Thanks guys! I love this car but when the original motor started giving me trouble I wanted to fix it so it would be reliable. The XKR motor is a very low 35,000 miles!

Not sure what the problem is, but there is one thing you need to do with care and that is installing the torque converter on the MB gearbox. A common mistake seems that one doesn’t fit it deep enough, so the end of the shaft is not sitting in the oil pump but pushing on it (t takes some playing until it shifts in). This would mean the TC would stick out a little but (5mm or so?) and then the engine/gearbox would not mate very well.

Any 4.0 XKR engine can be bolted to any 4.0 XJR transmission.

Better to ask what the problem is, then we can help better.

I'm gonna be meeting with him this weekend and he's gonna check out the engine and trans in my car. Once he checks it all out i'm sure he'll be able to give me a clearer understanding of "his concerns" ! I'm new to forum and this has been great already! The Jag is a beautiful car and I love it...I just want to get my baby back on the road again. Once again, thanks for the help guys.

OK..first thanks for the help and guidance I've gotten here! The engine was inspected this morning and all was going well UNTIL it was discovered that the knock sensor plug on the left bank had been cut. Now it looks like the supercharger on the replacement motor will have to come off to fix the problem!!!

While the supercharger is off, should I be repairing or replacing anything else while in there?
