XJR X308 Cylinder head Removal
Just some pics from my work. These darn valve seats just don't want to stay press fit. of course the cat bit me on the LAST head bolt. This time I had the heads off in 6 hours!

Changing EVERY valve seat. This car belongs to my boss, I did these heads 10,000 miles ago, but we only changed the seats that came adrift. Now we're changing all of them, and adding to the original spec for the press fit.
Of course the machine shop is taking forever on the heads, which is sort of a problem at this point. I only expected the car to be apart for a couple of weeks, here we are 3 months later, and it is still apart. I through all ~100 bolts in a pile, so that will be fun.
I've done quite a few of these. I can do a complete chain job on a N/A car in about 8 hours, 10 on a S/C car.

It does not take much to get an XJR to overheat. On a hot day i dont like to leave my AC on sitting in traffic, the idiot gauge wont give me the heads up until the expansion tank breaks... I just did heads on a X350 and they totally suck compared to a 308 alot more stuff needs to be removed just to get the timing cover off (ac, PS, Motor mount, Steering rack, Blah blah blah). I never trusted re installed valve seats: most are hammered in/out never as good as pressing in. Then again there are tons of hammered in seats that will never be an issue.

Still, yes the car overheated, but jaguar has protection circuits that will kill the engine before this kind of damage occurs. The press fit to begin with was not good enough.
As to the valve seats, we have it done by a GREAT machine shop. They build drag engines and all kinds of cool stuff. Whole team over there is awesome, so I trust their work. So, this time we should be good. 185,000 mile car.

Its funny how good machine shops are always ultra slow, better to have it right then do it all over again. Is the car a AJ26 or AJ27? I knew i was lucky nothing drooped when my car overheated. cant blame the car: i was the one who dident snap in one of the fan connectors completely after changing belts.
