Default XJR100 Brembo brakes, all 4 corners on a 99 XJR

Used parts
Front and rear calipers
Front backing plates
Rear banjo bolts

New parts
F&R Drilled rotors
F&R Hawk HPS pads
Stainless braided brake hoses (I already had them though)
4 M14x1.5x40mm bolts
4 M14 washers
Ate typ200 fluid

Tools
Basic tools to do a brake job
M12x1.25 tap and corresponding drill
Air nibbler (or shears)
Cutoff tool or Dremel
Ball joint tool remover

Note: I have a complete shop at home so I may gloss over or forget things that are common for me but may not be for others.

The first thing I did was strip and paint them, hardware went into the ultrasonic cleaner and the calipers got scuffed and sprayed. Left is factory, right is new paint.

With this, off the shelf color and aside from being a tad darker and a more metallic it's a good match to the emblems and original color

Painted, reassembled, and loaded with Hawk HPS pads.

The first and only real modification to the car itself is the caliper mount needs to be threaded. Previously the caliper horseshoe was threaded but the Brembo mounts on the opposite side of the ears so they need to be threaded. Slightly drill and then tap for the new hardware.

The hose connection is the same as stock, install rotor and caliper *not pictured but to swap the front dust sheilds you remove 3 bolts and have to pop the lower ball joint as the lower tab is sandwiched there. I also popped off the tie rod to make that easier. You can modify stock front plates but it's better to swap them if you can.

Behind the wheel, 19“ Coventry Whitley

The rear backing plates don't go over the rotor, they look the same size as stock but have a cutout for the caliper and the lip is cut down.

This is the modified stock backing plate, I used a nibbler to get the bent edge part cut down as much as I could and then cut out for the caliper. I had the rear ones as well for the Brembo set but things were not moving easily and after the first bolt broke I decided it wasn't worth it.

The rear brake hoses were the right size as well, but the thread pitch on the stock banjo bolt is different so you will need those bolts, I think m10 banjo, and new crush washers.

Done and done.

So pretty.

Looks great, how do you find the brake performance and pedal feel?

Nice work! I wish they made 2 piece rotors for our R Performance brakes.

Prior I had Goodridge SS lines and Hawk HPS pads on the stock setup so for me so pedal feel wasn't much different, braided lines are one of the best changes for better pedal response and feel and one of the first things I like to do on any car. The major difference is how even and smooth it is, its not as abrupt as the stock brakes and the repeatability is definitely improved.

I don't plan on tracking this car so it was already a great setup the way I had it but I've just been set on doing this since I got the XJR.

Depending on what your need/application is you can have them made for sure, the hat isn't that odd and some BMW are close enough to modify.

Looks nice on yours but you could not see them on mine. Besides, the Duchess...stops just fine.
How much do braided lines run?

nice work!

Were these the XJR100 or R1 calipers originally ? Since we don't see the "before" photos because I have both cars. The 100 calipers are silver with red lettering while R1 is gray with white lettering. otherwise the same calipers

I completed rebuilding mine ( full disassemble ) and changed the color to gold for more contrast.

Thank you for this! I've been planning to get this swap done for a while now, but realistically, still don't have the time, space, equipment or expertise to do it myself. But, this will be extremely helpful for the garage that does it for me!

Speak to Alcon Brandon, they made the 3 piece (bell, rotor hats) for the X308 bombproof miliary and home office spec X308 cars.
Not drilled, more braking area. Savage performance. The monobloc 6 pots are fitted to the 08' XKRS.

I don't know honestly, I bought them used and it said R100 but based on that info it appears they are R1 since they were dark metallic grey.

This thread has inspired me to get my R1’s all around on my 03’ SV8 that I’ve had for at least 2 years.

Just to throw out other options as Sean has done, Tarox in England also was put on the latest Drivetribe XKR.

I have zero experience with their products as I was just looking at it from YouTube.

looks great!

Interested in unloading those rear Brembo spec dust shields? I am planning to do the same to my X100 and would love to get a set of proper dust shields!

I haven't thought about it, I stored them with my XJR brakes with a future Jaguar project to be named

Probesport - The calipers look great. I am interested in upgrading my 98 XJR calipers to 98 XKR calipers and bigger rotors. I believe if I acquire 98 XKR bremdo calipers (18" rims) they should be bolt on with out having to make modifications. Would you happen to know if that's a fair statement? Kindly Mark
