Default 1st jag 1st breakdown

Hi guys bought my first jag. 1991 vanden plas 4.0 beautiful shape ran great for 3 days went to start it on the 4th day and would not start. I am getting no spark. Does anyone know know what voltages/resistances I should be reading. Dist is spinning coil wire reads 2.4kohm. condenser is reading open. I don't have a manual so I am basically just trying to verify that the hardware is ok, then I will try to determine if I am getting the correct signals to the hardware. VCM shows no codes.

Welcome to the forum chainsaw39,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help section to the XJ40 section. It will get more views by members with the same model here.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice on posting to the forum.

I hope the non-start issue is an easy fix.

Graham

chainsaw39:
First, welcome and congrats on the purchase.

Are you sure that you are not getting spark? I only ask because there are lots of fuel-related things that could be wrong as well.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor is also a common culprit in these XJ40 non-starts. Do a bit of research on that.

Sorry I don't have more specific answers to your question.

Best of luck!
Scott

thanks again replied to your other response 1st. No spark out of the coil. It appears to ohm out correctly(I believe don't have actual values until I get a manual.)

I used a stab light on the neg. side of the coil and it was pulsing but it was very dim. I have a replacement amp on the way will let you know.

Replace that Crank Position Sensor before you go getting all these other things. Without that working, nothing, and I mean nothing will work correctly, you will go nuts chasing.
