After 4 years renting a space under a car port with a place to lock up my tools, floor jack etc., the place next door has changed hands and I've been given the "boot"
I have to be out by Sept 1st so just 10 days notice
Before I rented the car port, on-street parking was a possible option but in the last 4 years the bicycle lobby has put an end to that - plus I don't fancy the Jag being part of the car surfing/leaper collecting fad.
Going to walk the back lanes today looking for a spot but I have a feeling finding covered parking with a tool lock-up will be quite the challenge!
Because I live on a main road there's no residential parking and folks with garages seem to want $300/month - which is out of the question for a retired old codger with a hobby car ...
cheers

How about printing some letters up explaining that you are a car
hobbyist with a vintage jaguar looking for a spot. Offer alternative sets
of terms: cash, or routine maintenance on their vehicles. Or combination
thereof. Then walk around and drop them in letter boxes at the places
that look like they might bite.
You might find some millenial who is desperate to have his tire pressures
and oil level checked on a regular basis due to their lack of ability to
do it themselves. Oil changes and tuneups aren't out of the question.
Labour only. They supply materials. Weekly wash and wax?

Hey thanks mate, good ideas, the letter thing is what I'll do for sure. I hope I can find a senior that's given up on driving and has an empty driveway ...
However ...the weekly maintenance thing is a no-go, I'd rather cough up a few bucks (a few that is) - I don't mind getting dirty working on the 40 or giving out a few tips but becoming the local go-to handyman isn't in the cards! Also the weekly wash and wax idea - well ...not really my cup of tea!! I go through the touchless car wash myself and if I had to wax someone car I'd be afraid I'd react like Walter White when he got asked to "help with some wipedowns"
just kidding!
Thanks again for the suggestions!

Update -
No luck I'm afraid. No response to any of my ads, parking is really tight here.
I've pulled into the alleyway and moved onto the grass verge and moved all my tools/supplies across town.
Hopefully the garbage truck will be able to get by without clipping the back of the car and the neighbors won't get me towed away ...

Larry,
Here's the plan:
1. Cover your Jag in moss and lichen.
2. At a suitable time of night, surreptitiously tow away the Humber. If you fear the deranged old lady might be a light sleeper, arrange for a loud distraction on the other side of her house.
3. Pull the Jag into your new parking spot.
4. Over the course of the next few months, gradually remove the moss and lichen from your Jag.
5. With any luck, the deranged old lady will never notice.

Hey thanks Plums, I've decided to park in the back lane for now, covered parking/workspace is now a vision from the past. At least no tree sap and minimal bird$hit and I guess if I give her a really good waxing, the paintwork might last a couple of years more. Not so sure about the interior though, direct sun etc ...
Most of the stuff on Kijiji is out of my budget (unless I want to come out of retirement) so in other words, can't afford it. The car is my hobby, but after all it's just a car, right? Not worth losing sleep over in the great scheme of things. I'll just drive it 'til it quits I guess.
I did fancy this place though; wonder if I could live there too? (might be a mite chilly come November though, eh?)

Hey Jerry,
Thanks for the offer, sounds perfect, lichen an' all!
Here I am, an aging old curmudgeon with a giant gas guzzler in a tourist trap town wrapped in a real estate frenzy ...lichen, mud and tarps sound pretty good right now!!!
Whoa! I think I just started a country and western song!
Cheers
