Exclamation ***Car ALARM Intermittent issue*** RESOLVED

Hey guys, so I have had my 1992 Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign for a couple of months now and since I got it, it has always had this interesting issue. When I first bought it, it needed a new battery. When installing the new battery, the lights that are tied with the alarm going off, would blink. This included the instrument cluster, side marker and light bulbs under the hood. I would resolve this by pressing the alarm key fob (Picture below) a number of times and it would eventually stop.

For the time I have owned the car after that, the key fob would lock and unlock the doors, trunk and even the panic function would work after hitting the button 5 time in a row. So the speaker that was with the car no longer worked and I wanted to complete the system so I bought a speaker from a 94 XJ6 and fitted it. I now have sound when I hit the button.

Yesterday, I decided to go for a ride with my girl and get some dinner. It had been a few days since I drove the car and when I went to the car, the alarm fob wouldnt unlock the doors. I also noticed the little red light on the steering column was not flashing. When I went to start the car, the battery was weak but the car started on its own.The antilock light and brake light came on which was unusual but I recently changed the accumulator and rear passenger side speed sensor to resolve these issues. After driving the car to get my girl and restarting it, the battery had power to start the car with ease and the brake and antilock lights were no longer on.

That night after our date, I parked the car and noticed the alarm led light was on. I pressed the lock button the key fob and the car locked! I was happy to see it was working again and for good measure, i hit the key fob button again to test it to no avail. The fob didnt unlock the doors or anything. I then unlocked the car manually with the key and the alarm went off with the lights blinking and the horn blaring. I tried to start the car and lights came on in the dash but the starter motor did not do anything. The alarm continued to blare and turning the key did nothing. I ended up disconnecting the negative lead of the battery and went to bed.

The next morning I reconnected it and the lights were blinking as they always do and the alarm speaker was making a beep sound. I was able to start the car but the key fob was not doing anything. I disconnected the battery at home and have left it at autozone to get a full charge hoping that this resolved the issue. Any other insight would be much appreciated or if anyone knows how to disable just the immobilizing function of the alarm so if it goes off again, I can at least drive the car! Thanks guys!

Sounds like you need to go through the steps to program the remote properly? The flashing headlight codes are part of the programming cycle IIRC.

BTW -on my car (a 94), the alarm switch is inside the center armrest, at the back, next to the trunk release.

Thanks for the info. Good to know that the alarm is functioning properly with the flashing headlights.

I was able to change the car battery for a new one as it seems the one I had was on its last leg. I also changed the batteries in the key fobs and now the system is working flawlessly! I would still like to know how to by pass the immobilization feature though in case I am on a far trip and something happens with the alarm. Any ideas on where I should look or what wire I can clip?

I have the valet switch in my center arm rest but never thought it worked. I will have to play with it and report back.

Hey guys so a little update. The alarm system continues to work flawlessly. I put the valet switch on and it deactivates the alarm and immobilization feature. This is probably to ensure a valet doesnt accidentally trip the alarm during parking! when the valet switch is off, the immobilization and alarm work as they should. One thing I noticed is that when the valet switch is on, the alarm chirps twice when armed. When it is off, the alarm chirps once when armed. In the folder of receipts I got from the original owner, he also had a small paper with some info about the alarm that I have included below. I havent tried it but I hope this helps someone in the future!
