WElcome, I am moving yourt querry off to the proper forums since your main thread is related to question .
Late model XJ40s are more reliable than pre Ford ones . Mineral hydraulic system was a nightmare for my '88 .Tranny was nowhere being more functional as my '93
4.0 AJ6 engine is also more powerful than 3.6 liter version

Exterior door handles break commonly and are not cheap.
The self leveling suspension and brake booster run off mineral oil and are prone to failure.
Blower motors die, and are not cheap.
Random electrical glitches.

They are very comfortable cars that are quite and extremely enjoyable on long road trips. I love mine. It's a 89
