1988 XJ40 3.6 I6 Empty Threaded Hole in Driver's Side Head
Aloha!
I recently picked up a 1988 Jaguar XJ40 that had been sitting in a garage for the past 10 years. I have been trying to fix it up and get a new daily driver, but I have run into one complication very early on.
I ran some coolant through the system without starting the engine just to see where I was going to have some leaks, because any car sitting that long should. But I saw coolant pouring out of some hole in the driver's side of the head, just under the valve cover. I managed to squeeze my hand in there to try and feel it and I felt threads, but for the life of me I haven't been able to figure out what should go in the hole.
I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me, or if anyone could tell me any unexpected repairs I'll need specific to a Jag that's been sitting that long.
Mahalo!

If the "hole" is right at the back of the head, near the firewall, that could be the place where the hot water valve to the heater hose is fitted.
Too bad you can't take a pic with your phone or give a better description of the position relative to other components - at the moment it's just a guessing game with no definitive answers.

Aloha wowzela,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
At jaguarclassicparts.com you can view exploded parts diagrams that may be helpful. It can take a while to learn what parts and systems are in which menu options, but once you find your way around you'll find yourself consulting this website frequently:
Also have a look at jagrepair.com, where a lot of XJ40 documents are available, some of them misfiled in the XJ6 & XJ12 category.
Also, at the link below you can download a mostly-complete U.K. edition of the Haynes repair manual:
Haynes Jaguar XJ40 Repair Manual
In the meantime, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,
Don
