Default 1989 xj40 vanden plas remote.
Any tips where to find a replacement or at least one that will work.

I don't think that's a remote, it might be a light as that was a common accessory back in the 80's. My Porsche 928 also has it

I believe the 3.6 XJ6 (XJ40) used the IR lock/unlock system. I saw one once but never had to repair one.
The RF system started with 1990MY XJ40 in the U.S.

Manual shows a single button fob.

Thanks am hoping I can get a replacement fob or have current key fob fixed but it is a 1989.

I have a key similar to that which is a keyhole- finding flashlight. The battery slides out a slot in the end.

Do I recall that the flashlight fobs have an LED or bulb on the housing alongside the key blade? That might help Madvmax tell if that's what he has.

The 1990> TIBBE keys did come with a battery and small incandescent bulb.
The battery was a 'stepped' button cell but I forget the generic number.

These keys do no contain central locking/ remote fobs. The buttons control a small light only.
