Default 1991 jaguar xj6 dash lights

I have recently bought a 1991 xj6 without an owners manual. And I need to know what the warning light in the dash are. Lightning bolt, circle with an x in it etc.

Yes, it would be a lot easier with an owner's manual.

The circle with the 'X' indicates a bulb burned out, and the lightning bolt indicates a fuse burned out. The control panel to the right of the steering column has a 'VCM' button which will display additional information in the odometer display. Keep in mind there are 3 fuse boxes; 1 in the arm rest console, and 1 each in the left & right door pillars, just up from the floor at the front of both front doors. The other amber warning lights are pretty self explanatory, as are the red warning lights on the right side of the instrument cluster.

Hope this helps.

"Fuse 1" indicates the fuse box in the right side kick panel, immediately in front of the door, just above the floor. Fuse 2 would be the similar panel on the left side, and Fuse 3 is the fuse box in the arm rest console.

The bulb failure won't have more info. You just have to check all the exterior lights to find which one is burned out.

You're welcome. This forum has been of similar help to me.

When the brake light illuminates only when brakes are applied, it is supposed to mean that brake pads are worn to minimum. When the light stays on, it is supposed to indicate either low brake fluid or low boost pressure. So, check the brake pads and fluid level. I don't know if there is any DIY way to check the boost pressure. Oh, and VCM should give more info on that problem too.

I checked the fluid its fine my brake pads look at little worn out so maybe I should invest in some new ones. I got the light bolt on the dash to go away by replacing a fuse so thanks for the great info!

don't forget to also check the third brake light and the rear brake lights in the tail section, have someone press the pedal while you look, also check the rear fogs too they will also set the bulb out indicator in the dash off.
