On that site yes it is called an xj6, however I have nnever heard of this site before so I cannot tell you wheather or not it is a good site. I can't tell if they are selling parts specifically made for are car, or if it is just a fender that is generic that they say can fit on an xj40.

That's our site. We actually support this site with our advertising dollars! Note that the 91 is a split year. You will need the last six of the VIN to get the correct part. If you have any other questions are need any help, just let me know.
Trivia: XJ40 is a slang term for all XJ6, VDP, Soverign, and Majestics from 1988 to 1994. Though the body styles are simular, these are not the same cars. For example, the fender you need is the same from 1988 to mid-91, then mid-91 to 93, and 94 is unique unto itself. But all are considered XJ40.

Very cool! I forgot in the list of XJ40 cars the XJ12. In the USA we had them in 1994 only for the XJ40 body style. I believe the ROW had them in 1993 as well. We don't get some of the really cool cars other countries see. For example, there is no such thing as a US production Series 3 XJ12. They were all imported here from Canada or other nations. Nor, was the XJ220 sold here during production.

well I think you have it upside down. The XJ-40 is the official Factory name for the....XJ-40. It started as the internal "project code name" for the new model, but it remained XJ-40. But in the US, dealers and owners still call them XJ-6, which in a sense they are, unless they are 12 cylinders, in which case they would be an XJ-40-12 or an XJ-12.
The XJ-40 has "squared" and "sharper"lines than the original XJ-6 which was rounded everywhere.
Now let's look at the rear of these cars from 1988-on. What do they say?
do they say "XJ-40" or do they say "XJ-6" ??
And to answer the poster's question to the point, a 1991 Vanden Plas is an XJ-40 with slightly different interior bits and interior colors reserved for the Vanden Plas. Ditto for the Sovereign model.
To make an analogy with a domestic manufacturer like Ford: A Vanden Plas would be the luxury equivalent of an "Eddie Bauer Edition", or an "XLT".
A "base" or "standard" XJ-40 would be the equivalent of an "XL".
A Sovereign model is a cross between a Vanden Plas and a "base" model, a car which ispreparedfor embassys, governments, corporations, and other "sterile" environments. And it comes in a few drab colors only. (yawn).
Look at the XJ Production Chart below, (32 years of production, from 1968 to 2000), compiled by the Editor of Jaguar World Magazine to see exactly what "model designation" your car falls under based on its year of manufacture.
