1991 XJ6 Soverign Radio Issue
Hello,
I purchased this car and thw radio does not come on. The security light flashes on and off which appears to be a part of the radio. Are these radios very reliable it is the radio tape and CD unit in the trunk. I also noticed the face of the radio is curved to the contour of the console. I really do not want to butcher the console to put in an after market unit in. Are these worth having fixed? are they very reliable? mayne it is just a fuse. Any thoughts?

Check both the fuseboxes, pull the radio out and verify separate battery and ignition power, send it out for repair or PM me for a good used one. You have a battery feed since the security light is flashing.
Aftermarket radios fit in the opening, you will have a bit of adventure wiring it up and you may not find one that interfaces with the trunk mounted CD changer.

JTO got it right. Before you part with your hard earned DO check that the new head unit will interface with your existing CD charger.
Adventure, good word. Wey hey. I'm in the middle of an install right now. (Scratches head to remove remaining hair, whilst figuring out how to convert existing 14 pin connector, to new 10 pin unit).
A Gifted, Pioneer changer to Pioneer head unit. So to do this most of the center front console needs to come out. Followed by the rear seats. Then part of the rear side trim. This is because the existing interface cable needs to be changed. A "fun" job.
So unless you really want to go down this road either get you original unit repaired or much simpler, buy the good used one from JTO.
Cheers,
