1993 XJ40 Sovereign (4.0Litre)
I really had no business buying this car - I had recently sold my Supercharged XJR, as i emigrate to Australia in 6 Months, and the right buyer came along.
So, i bought a Jaguar S-Type (3.0Litre V6 SE) to use as a daily driver, thinking it would be quicker and easier to sell, come moving time. BUT i got bored of it being so good - Other than cleaning the car, it required no tinkering and no messing and i just couldnt live without an XJ (this Sovereign is my 6th XJ).
Wanting a car i could use daily, and hopefully stand out as 'one to buy' when i come to sell. I decided to look for late 93/94 model cars.
Having looked at lots of ropey cars, and cars with to many issues i finaly found this car.
She is a 1993 Car, finished in Flemenco Red with Doeskin leather and cherry red piping.
I bought the car off the wife of the second owner, who had not been able to drive the car for the last 8 months due to failing health. He owned the car for the last 8 years and covered 30,000 of the cars 57,000 miles!!
of course... It's an old XJ40, it has a couple of issues. But all easy to address.
I have done a couple of them already:
And there are a couple of jobs that are about to be done in the next week:
And thats it really - There is no rust at all on the bodywork or the inner/outer sills etc. Only two previous 'localised' repairs under the car. She has matching origional specification Pirelli P4000's all round, and absolutly everything electrical works!! The roof lining needs no attention and even the AC blows ice cold.
Here are some pics....

I have done a couple of them already:
- Replace upper rear chrome trim that 'joins' the rear lights
- re-colour a 3" section of seat piping
- Fully valet the car - she had been sitting for 8 months
And there are a couple of jobs that are about to be done in the next week:
- Fit new suspension top bushes
- re-fit rear bumper, The side sections dont quite sit flush enough for my liking
- Have a previous corrosion repair (under the car) tidied up (for asthetics - as its done to a good standard)
And thats it really - There is no rust at all on the bodywork or the inner/outer sills etc. Only two previous 'localised' repairs under the car. Thanks for the comments chaps
Graham, i would love to take the car with me. But you have to have owned/insured/MOT'd and Taxed your car, for at least 12months before VISA activation.
You can take a car over, if it was built before 1st January 1989 or you can pay an extortionate amount of import duty.... Neither are options for me.
With 'sun fading' being more of an issue than corrosion, i am going to go for a Series III when i move to Australia.... But buying a Jag over there will be a while away.
