'88 xj40 Air con Blower Noise
Hi All,
I'm assuming that I'm going to have to pull my blowers out for an inspection but just thought I would post first to see if anyone else has experienced this "noise"?
Having recently (and finally) regassed my air con so that I am now nice and cold here in our Oz summer, I now have a strange noise coming from my blowers. It only seems to occur when I either turn left (noise coming from left blower) or right (noise coming from right blower). The 'noise' they are making sounds like the sound of dried leaves blowing about or the sound of moisture 'boiling' off as if you were to drizzle cold water onto a hot element.
They sound like they are operating correctly when I drive in a straight line.
Any heads up before I tie myself up in knots entering the footwell(s) would be greatly appreciated

Would you also describe that noise as 'hissing' - like of like Darth Vader's breathing mechanism? My '91 does that in direct correlation to it's gradual coolant loss. Thus, when it's freshly charged, it is silent. But over time it begins to 'breathe' or hiss. Perhaps you should take it back to the place you had the AC charged and ask them to check it again.

Scott, the noise isn't the dreaded Darth Vader Hiss but thanks for your input... I had that prior to having the system being re gassed. The reason for the hiss is a lack of pressure in the system which causes the valves to close slower than when the system is fully gassed. At proper operating pressure they open and shut immediately, hence no hiss.
The noise I have only occurs immediately after turning a corner and only lasts a few moments before quietening down again in a straight line. I'll pull out a blower, inspect it and if I come up with anything post what I find.... just not today...it's too hot and the cricket is on!

I get like that when it's 90 here as well. It's 1 degree here today, not eager to pull out a blower motor, but I had to last week. Before you pull it, you can actually get in there and see beyond the flap with a good light, could be debris in there. If you have air bags there though proceed with extreme caution, mine doesn't. Nice afternoon job, like when it's 70, from 4p-7p.
