'93 XJ6. Right front caliper binding.
I have had issues with my front right caliper binding. I thought the caliper was bad so I replaced it. It still binds though. Fluid is new and is not the issue. If I back off the pressure with the bleed screw the caliper backs off just fine and the wheel will turn. I hit the brakes and the right front won't turn until I back the pressure off again with the bleed nipple.
I'm sure there is a check valve or something in either the ABS or the system that balances the brakes. Before I drop a ton of cash into this, does anyone have any ideas where I might look for the problem? I'd rather replace a check valve than the whole system.
Thanks!

caliper
I'm not sure if there is any kind of check valve in the system.Proportioning valve maybe. But you may want to check the rubber brake hose that goes to that caliper. In the past I've seen the hose inner layer start to crack and separate-from all the constant flexing- and actually act as a check valve allowing fluid flow in one direction only. Plus the hose is one of the cheapest parts to replace first in the system before getting to any of the pricey brake components. Cary

You are a genius, you diagnosed it spot on.
Growing up with a mechanic for a father, I have been working on cars since I was 7 years old. I have fallen into the habit of only giving credibility to situations that I have seen before. Having never seen a brake hose collapse internally, I have to admit that I initially dismissed your suggestion. After giving it some thought though, it became more and more apparent that it was feasible. $19 on a new hose and she's braking like a champ.
Now if you can only fix my a/c and stop my headliner from sagging I'll be forever in your debt!
All the best,
Andy

Excellent! Glad the hose fixed the problem. The other 2 problems may be more challenging. My a/c just stopped working also-clutch isn't engaging- so will have to look at that soon. Luckily the temps have been mild for Aug so not a big concern to fix it but will need it at some point. Cary
