Default all good things come to an end

No I didn't send the XJ40 to the boneyard (yet) but ...

This morning I tried to go to the classic Jag site in the UK to check on a part, (actually a service tool) and of course the site has been "upgraded" to make it "easier" to use for phone users.

Easier for dummies who can't use a computer perhaps, but far more difficult for those of us who can.

Oh well, the great dumbing-down continues ...guess I'll have to fire up my JEPC from now on ..

grrr

I've noticed that too. Even here. It's sad indeed

A perfect example of "new and improved" being "cumbersome and frustrating." Very sad. I use that website almost every day.

All our links are deprecated too, so no references in the archive that point to the old site work.

While I think the old version was vastly superior and much easier to navigate, I am thankful that the site still exists. Not many I use it very frequently, and while many parts are NLA, they at least still provide part numbers, and it's a great resource when searching out parts far and wide, new and used.

All too often, resources like this can tend to go "Bye-Bye" when cutting costs, so I will appreciate it being around in just about any form.

Ok Nick, find the section that shows the special service tools - I couldn't!

Hi Ren,

jaguarclassicparts.com is the website for the parts service of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. It has exploded parts diagrams, part identifications and part numbers for Jaguar models from 1961 to 2009 or so. Most of the part diagrams I post on this forum have been snagged from that website because until recently it has been more convenient than opening the EPC or XJ40 DVD-ROM.

Cheers,

Don

jaguarclassicparts.com still redirects to the new, longer url and is easier for me to remember.

I have so many bookmarks, especially ones containing the word Jaguar, that it's faster to just type in a url this short and easy to remember.

I just went there to look up the exhaust silencers and... uh-oh. Double checked the bookmark... Yup it's true. I sure will miss those awesome diagrams that displayed more clearly than even my CD rom does. Moving backwards to move forward............. I knew I'd see a thread about it around here, and a minute later, here I am.

We've seen the same kinds of changes here on JF too. Change for the sake of change (or for the sake of phones, which all suck for actual usefulness).

What annoys me most is the increase in screen sizes of both phones and computers, while the text fonts get smaller and lighter, essentially harder to read and use. I already ranted about it to JF...

Hey Richard -

If you use Firefox for the web, hold down the CTRL key and hit the plus sign and the text will increase in size - CTRL and the minus sign and it goes the other way. Poobably Opera and Chrome have a similar feature.

This applies to the PC of course, not sure what you do on the MAC.
