Android touch screen head unit into XJ40?
Has anyone here ever installed an aftermarket touchscreen android head unit into a XJ40?
Various units are offered on ebay from manufactures such as Joying, Atoto, and etc in sizes ranging from 7" to 10" touchscreen displays.
There are single DIN units as well as dual DIN units. There are also units offered where either the main head unit can be mounted remotely from the screen itself or other ones where there actually is no DIN body on the back of the radio (see photos below)
I am wondering how to install this type of aftermarket radio into an XJ40 dash.
7inch touchscreen unit from side
3/4 view of 7inch touchscreen head unit
Single DIN 9inch Android head unit

I would definitely have clearance concerns with the shifter for the "pop-out" unit, and just don't see how you'd put a double-din in our dashboard.
I installed a "Joying" in my Lincoln a few years back, and although it was nice at first, it has become obsolete quite quickly and the sound quality was never what I wanted it to be. I've heard very good things about the audio processing in the "ATOTO" units, so I'd be more tempted there, but I think even those come with a version of Android that's a few years old, which means as time goes on and applications get upgraded, it may not be able to keep with the times. I think I'd try to find a more traditional single-din head unit (with bluetooth) for the car instead, and use the phone for navigation..
Which brings another question - Is there a go-to stereo wiring harness adapter for these cars? I've looked around a couple times, and didn't see one that seemed like the obvious choice.

I dont think there was enough room, so I went out and purchased a standard looking single din with bluetooth. Pioneer MVH-S215BT
Mike, as for the wiring harness, I couldnt find one and thought I would have a dozen or so wires to cut and solder to the new harness that came with the new stereo.
But good old google just showed me the easy way on how to unpin a wiring harness. It took me about 2 minutes to unpin and re-pin the old and new harness for the stereo.\
Also the old wire colour codes matched up with the new stereo, although there is a pink wire there in the Jaguar that isnt included in the new stereos wiring harness. Google says its for a speed sensor to increase the volume as the car speeds up, so it will be left disconnected.

A few years back I found a slide out screen single din.

This was before the android auto/carplay stuff and I found it it wasn't worth the space it took up for me. Especially when open you can't access the climate or lighting buttons. I haven't had a chance to play with android auto or in my case Apple car play so I cant say if it's worthwhile. As the popularity of large screens has grown I find I prefer a more minimalist look.

I installed new speakers all around. I have Focal component speakers in the doors and 5.75 inch Focal subwoofers in the rear under the seats. Had to make the whole bigger with a sledge hammer but i got it to work and the sound is incredible.
I ran all the speakers through a 6 channel 1200 watt amp that i located under the passenger footwell and out of the way.
