Ariel Antenna Questions
I have spent a day looking thru the site so I would not have to post a new thread. I've been working diligently on my new2me 1994 XJ6/XJ40 and I am rather thrilled to say, it's going rather swimmingly! My newest project is the radio, I've noticed that while I can get one channel to come in, the rest of the frequencies are static, due to my ariel antenna appearing to be dead. I've checked the relay and all the 4 wire contacts have power except for the blue wire. This could totally be operator error, as I am not mechanically inclined in any way shape or form, but i enjoy the challenge. Again, I digress....I have checked all 3 fuse boxes, and found non related to the ariel antenna. I've also swapped the relay for another just to see if something would happen. At one point I thought I heard the motor while I was inside the cab but no movement. Just looking for some ideas. Again, my sincerest apologies for posting this as I am sure the answer is inside the site somewhere. I just had not seen anyone getting radio signal, and no ariel movement.

If the antenna motor is running, it usually means that the plastic gear "tail" attached to the antenna mast has a broken tooth or two. Your antenna (1994 ) should be a Harada brand. Earlier antennas as made by Hirschmann.
A new mast assembly with gear tail is available on eBay etc, but you will have to remove the old broken mast and section from the case first.
Re-check that you can actually hear the motor running before doing anything.
Best to get a friend to turn on radio while you listen in the trunk.
