I went to " go advanced" and it took me to the paper clip that said "insert link". It then said to enter "url". Couldn't get to "manage attachments"! I and these sorts of things aren't working well together.

No, no. Stay away from the first paperclip. We know paperclips have all escaped from MS Word and are evil.
Click 'Go Advanced' THEN click on THAT paperclip to get to 'Attachments'
If you're still having problems scroll down and you'll see an 'Additional Options' window with a 'Manage Attachments' button which does the same thing.
