Best Workshop Manual

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the most excellent acquisition! Be sure to check in with the 'Intros' section. We like to be a friendly bunch around here and you deserve a proper welcome.
I have the original shop manual on CD from JDHT and it is comprehensive. Trouble is, I have to fire up an old PC computer to use the discs! If it's available on download, getting that work is in your best interest. Otherwise, the Haynes manual comes in very handy. So do the hundreds of uploads and posts in the 'sticky' section of the forum. Jag-Lovers has a very good XJ40 book on their website as well with lots of helpful anecdotal advice. (That's also in the sticky section.)
Have fun!

HI nikwrstlr21,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.
The official Jaguar service manuals are available on DVD from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. For some reason the website shows an XJ-S on the cover of the newly-revised service manual DVD for the '92-94 XJ40, so you might want to communicate with them to be sure you get the DVD you need:
Jaguar Heritage. XJ40 1992-94, XJR & XJR-S (JHM1152)
The Supplementary Model & Service Information DVD contains the Electrical Guides and lots of other very useful info:
Jaguar Heritage. XJ40 (XJ6 & XJ12) SUPPLEMENTARY MODEL & SERVICE INFORMATION JHM 1130
The Haynes XJ40 Manual is an excellent supplementary reference that is not as thorough as the Jaguar manuals, but offers some very helpful additional information and simplifies certain procedures. For many years before JDHT issued the Jag manuals on CD-ROM, many XJ40s, including ours, were well maintained based on Haynes and the exchange of information via the forums. You can download a pdf scan of the Haynes manual at the link below, but for some reason it's missing chapters 7 & 8 on the transmission. It would be worth asking your local O'Reilly or other chain auto parts store if they can order a printed copy for you:

The XJ40 eBook at Jag-Lovers is available at the link below. You may need to register to view the content, but it's free, and there are mountains of XJ40 information available in the forum archives there:

The Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) issued over the years are important reading, and many of those are listed in the XJ40 'HOW TO' quick links near the top of the home page of this XJ40 forum.
And as Scott mentioned, we're a friendly group, so please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can give you a proper welcome and learn something about you and your Jag.
Cheers,
Don
