Default body kit ... xjr ... twr ... other

i am new to jaguars, i bought an 89 xj6 or xj40 (little confused on that point, but i think i have it now) it is in great shape with low miles. i am going to sport it up a bit and give it to my wife as a surprise. i have seen a couple body kits on old web sites. i like the t.w.r kit and xjr kit. my question is..... is there any place in the states where i can get a body kit for my car??
if anyone has any ideas or pointers on sporting up the looks on the car i would like to hear them or if you have or know of pics that would be great.
thanks

ps i hope i put this thread in the right section

I've been looking at those as well, but I have only been able to find them in the UK, and the prices have been very steep. I think with a bit of updating to the nose and tail it would give it a much sportier look. Especially since I added the 17" XK8 rims to mine. I know it's a xj6 and it's not supposed to be sporty but they really do handle quite well and have just enough grunt once their moving to be fun

If you come up with anything let me know and I'll do the same.

Here's the one I like from the uk, not a fan of the paint job they gave it, but I like the bumpers.

You did put it in the right forum by the way. Post up some pics of the old xj6 when you get the chance.

Here's a couple of mine with the new rims, they made a big difference in the cat.

Not keen on the kit myself. The front looks just what it is 'A kit''. Why not just give it a good clean and polish, then surprise your wife by having the money already put to one side for that first repair.

Now Army's XJ, that looks sharp. lol

That looks like the real twr bumpers and skirts from what I can see. I would love those on mine as well.

i copied and pasted this form the link you posted on this thread, i looked at there T.W.R. kit, the page started like this.......................................

"We stopped producing these kits about 4 years ago, after demand dropped, and we accepted a rather generous offer from an American customer for our Series 3, XJ40, and XJS T.W.R. Replica moulds."

( Autofashion is making them again of course, its there ad)

.....................so i am thinking there is a company here in the states making them or there should be some good used ones around.

exactly, I read that part to but have yet to turn up the company that's producing them. It's almost like they bought the molds than sat on them...

i was killing time and looked on eBay UK and saw a place that sells the twr spoilers for half that of what they cost in the link above. there about $240.00 usd. i sent them an email just to see what shipping might be. they have the rear bumper to (and i asked about side skirts and deck spoiler) also i asked if there was a discount for buying both or all (if they make them)

Those are exactly what I'm looking for side skirts would be nice but not a must have for me.

I wonder if one of my battle buddies in England would be able to arrange shipping of such an item if the seller wouldn't ship?

Hey! Dont know if anyone has covered this but this is how it is:

All XJ's with a 6 cylinder engine = XJ6
XJ's with an 8 cylinder engine = XJ8
XJ's with a 12 cylinder engine - XJ12

XJ40 is just the model year so to speak...(a way of differentiating WHICH XJ6 or XJ12 you have-it basically is the cars body shape!)

So XJ's between '68 and '73 are Series 1's
between '73 and '79 are Series 2
between '79 and '86 are Series 3's
XJ's made between 1986 and 1984 are XJ40s
etc etc.

So you can have an XJ40 which is either an XJ6 OR an XJ12...

AND just to confuse you some more, if it IS an XJ40 XJ12, it is often referred to by its code name XJ81!

And XJ8s didnt come about until late '90s, so there are no XJ8s for S1,2,3 or XJ40

Being a woman that may just have come out as waffle, I can never explain things quickly and easily lol!! But I hope it makes sense for you

Oh and as a disclaimer the dates may not be exactly accurate, my brain is like a seive!!

sux!!!!!
cost around seven hundred seventy five dollars to ship a full twr kit (front, rear, trunk spoilers and side skirts)to georgia. seems like i could fly over and bring them back for that. the kit price it self is not that bad, its a little over $800.00 usd for a new whole kit. i am going to see if i can find any alternative ways to ship them. if anyone has any ideas on shipping please let me know.. if i remember correctly a flight from london is pretty cheap maybe i could have them put on a jet and pick them up in Savannah Ga. ,,,,,,,, sorry thinking out loud,,,,,,,,,,

I thought it was 88-94 for xj40's.....

Actually as far as shipping goes that's not that horrible. You should check the price to ship a Land Rover motor!

so about $975 total for the kit, that's not real horrible.

this is the email i got

""I manufacture and supply all the TWR spoiler kits,XJS,XJRS, XJ40,XJ6.i HAVE A COMPLETE TWR XJ6 spoiler kit in stock, front and rear bumper, pair of sills and boot spoiler.I can let you have a complete kit for £500.00 plus shipping to the States, which will cost a further £475.00.The shipping cost is the cheapest I could find and I`ve had to split the consignment into 4 different parcels so as to allow the courier to give me the go a head to ship because the parcel size would be too big otherwise.
John.

I'm guessing that the UK price you have been quoted will be correct. One thing to remember is that this kit for an old XJ40 is just not popular at all. Read never seen one on the road.

A few of the XJS's did have some boy racer type stuff added 'years ago'

No one would spend any real money on an XJ40 of this age (heck you can pickup a fully taxed and tested car for under a 1000$).

So your manufacturer is likely to be making you a 'one off' from thier moulds.

Your shipping cost is based on the volume/size of the package. This would be relatively high due to the bulky nature of the kit.

My personal opinion is that you are far better off putting your money to one side, sell the car and upgrade to a newer or more sporty example.

Do not spend/waste your hard earned on bits of fibre glass, which will do nothing to improve the value or appearance of the car.

Or if you must spend something on it then, do what Army did, get a good paint job and treat it to some nice wheels. Then you will have a very classy motor indeed!

Just my 2cents
