Hopeless,
I'm not sure what piece you are referring to when you use "goose neck". Are you referring to the neck for the fuel tank, or are you referring to the hinge which attaches the fuel fill lid to the body of the car, also sometimes called a goose neck, or are you referring to the hinges for the boot lid which attach to the body Perhaps you could attach a picture of the part.
This thread originated on the subject of the fuel filler lid assembly, therefore a bit confused on what you are asking.

Hi Mark,
I have moved your post from an old thread related to the boot latch to start your own new thread, since it is not the latch that is your problem.
Without knowing the year and model of your Jaguar it's impossible to give you a specific response, but from your description I gather that what you are calling the gooseneck is the boot/trunk lid hinge, which is part 2 in the XJ40 diagram below:
One typical cause of boot lid alignment problems is a bent hinge or boot lid panel due to the lid having been forced onto an object in the boot that was too tall to allow the lid to close properly. Is it possible your hinge is bent, or the lid is twisted?
If you'll let us know the year and model of your Jag I'll make sure your thread is in the correct forum.
Cheers,
Don
