Bypassing the purge valve?

Bypassing the purge valve?
Is this posssible for testing purposes? My car at times runs rough, misses and sputters a bit. I get a fuel fail 44 and 26 when this happens (both are O2 sensor codes). Now what I have noticed is when the car is failing in this way, the whole interior of the car smells like gas. I check for leaks and nothing.
So, is it possible to eliminate the purge valve for testing? Me theory on this is that the valve gets stuck and is venting too much atmosphere into the intake causing the rough running. When it is operating as it should, the car is a dream to drive. Just a theory.
I do know all the implications of running without the purge valve, so worry not.
Thanks!
