a/c temp flucuates
Hello all and thank you for the warm welcome a few weeks back. I have been pretty busy working on the cat these past couple of weeks. Tires alignment, and the latest was a new update oil pressure switch. need to put new shocks in the back. My latest project is the a/c. It was working for about 2 weeks but starting leaking from the expansion valve. After replacement I started noticing the a/c temp would flucuate for 45 to 75 degrees while driving. I dye checked and found no leaks. One thing I did notice and am not sure if this is normal for the Jaguar but i suspect not is the a/c compressor does not kick on when turned on?? I checked the a/c clutch relay (tested across the terminals) and it clicks on.I suspect the compressor is cuting off of there is a switch controlling cycling.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this.
note: Both cooling fans are working.

Hi
When you replaced your expansion valve did you evacuate the freon in the systerm and then use a vacume pump to vacume out the system? usually for 30mins to 1 hour. Then after the valve replacment do it again for another 30 minutes and check to see if the system held a vacume?
When the system is opened to atmosphere moisture enters and MUST be removed or it can cause all kinds of problems.
Also usually when you open a system you usually replace the Filter/Drier as it can cause clogs in the system.
I'm not a AC expert but have been doing alot of research on the subject for my '89 XJ 40 AC problems.

Hello TSJAG,
I am sorry to hear about your a/c problems. I hope everything goes well with getting your a/c up and running. It seems these xj40's (mainly 93's,94's) just don't have good a/c systems. Next week i am having my new evaporator put in (finally) due to a really bad leak in the current evaporator.
