calipers rubbing rims
Hello all,
I just purchased a 1990 xj6/xj40 for my son, I have just redone the front brakes on it and noticed when I put the front wheels back on the calipers are rubbing against the rims. When I bought it I was told the brakes were locked up from sitting, so I towed it home. Now that all the brakes are replaced I see I have a problem with the caliper rubbing the rims. Is there suppose to be wheel spacers ? If not what could be the problem ? It does have the stock 15" x 6.5 rims on it not aftermarket.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks Mike

RE: calipers rubbing rims
Greetings,
You have a unique, and potentially dangerous situation. There is no way that a stock 1990 Jaguar XJ6 roadwheel will contact the brake caliper if the brake system is correctly assembled with the proper components. No Jaguar ever used removable wheel spacers as factory fitment.
The only way I would be able to determine where things have gone wrong is to see some photos of your car. There is a Haynes repair manual available for XJ40, perhaps refence material from that source would be your best option.

Thanks,
At least I know there is not suppose to be spacers, I do have a haynes manual for it and everything appears to be correct, but I will recheck!
This is the first jag I have ever worked on, but the brakes dont seem any different from any other car I have worked on.I don't possibly know what I could be missing ? caliper, caliper mounting bracket, pads, mounting pins ???
Thanks again,
I will recheck the brakes
