central lock question xj 40 -92
hi
well, i fixed a used, but working, central lock motor to the trunk. but of course it still not work. it seems that it is something wrong with the wiring to it. all other motors in the central lock system is working, exept this. in the picture i have added i have marked the wiring with red there it will split up. is there anyone here that know where there wiring split up. the wiring is ok and it disapear on the right side. on the left side, the wiring do the same, from the fuel cap. but that works correct. if it will not be very needed i dont want to make a wiring from fuel cap to the bonet central lock motor, if it is possible i want it original... and working of course :-)

I was working on mine not too long ago.* If I remember correctly* That has a 2 wire plug and is wired like the window motors, Hot one way opens, hot other way locks. Mine are worn out so that they barely work and can be heard from 30 feet away because of the plastic gears grinding. I have unplugged one. If you haven't already, try making sure the motor really does work. Also of course check the fuse. My 92 owners manual has a good listing on fuses- but 94 is worthless. If the wiring is still in question check for a loose or un-done plug in the harness. I seem to recall several plugs up under there by the fuel filler. Good luck.

hi jerry
the central lock works that it switch + and - to open and close the doors and fuel cap and trunk. the motor is replaced and checked so it works. the problem is that the wiring is working in the trunk but then disapears somewhere, i dont know. i have take a picture and i have cut of the wiring to check it. wiring to the trunk is ok. otherway no voltage. so it must be a fault in the wiring between the trunk central motor and the fuel cap, as all other central lock is working including the fuel cap.

Just a shot in the dark, but is it possible that the fuse box has a problem? Fuse boxes are a common failure point on the XJ40.
Fuses can test as good on each side of the fuse on the front panel but fail to transfer the current to the plug at the back of the fuse box. The problem is due to cold or cracked solder joints in the circuit boards.
Reflowing the solder on the rear board usually fixes the problem.

hi larry
yes, the fuse box is a commond problem, you have right there. a friend of mine have problems with the fuse boxes in his car. but unlucky this is not so easy this time as everything else in the central lock system is working, exept the trunk motor. the motor is replaced, and checked so it works. but it got no power to it. i have hope that someone here knows where the wiring split up between the filler cap and the trunk lock motor. but thanx for your suggestion.
