Dead Radio
Hi everyone--been a while.
My radio died, one moment working the next nothing. I turned it off and on--and for a flash it worked and then dead for good. Fuse is fine and the security light is blinking. I'd like to keep a stock unit if at all possible, ideally getting this one working again; but repair options seem few and far between and I am no electrician.
Does anyone have suggestions or repair shops in the States you've used willing to work on this unit?
Appreciatively,
Scott

Well if it's totally "dead" and you have power coming into it, that sort of points to a power supply problem rather than something radio-ish. Shouldn't be hard to fix by any competent repair guy, probably just a capacitor or two gone.

I haven't shopped for an XJ40 radio in years, but the last time I needed one eBay had several and I picked up a nice one with the security code for $40.00, which may be less than the cost of repairing yours. If you can't find one with the security code, it is possible to modify the jumpers so the radio will use a known code.

sadly , the radio is known to just die, and its internal
if your handy with electronics it can be repaired, however you need to replace several capacitors on the main board, assuming it hasn't fried several other components
the easiest way is a replacement units that works and comes with the code, though this can be overcome with some deft soldering

FIXED. I sent my radio to Creative Car Audio Shop in Brea, California after finding them on eBay. The radio is re-installed and works as new. I cannot recommend this repair shop enough. Great communication and fast service. They service many quirky makes and models. I'm happy I could keep things stock. Cheers, Scott
