Did Jag Ever Install 5.25" Front Door Speakers

I have some speakers from a '93 VDP on my bench at the moment that I can measure. I can also compare them to some aftermarket 5.25" and 6.5" speakers. I don't think Jaguar speakers of that era matched up to the typical aftermarket sizes of 4", 5,25" or 6.5". If I had to guess, I think the speakers from the '93 are between the 5.25 and 6.5 sizes.

XJ6Paul: Thanks for reaching out. I own a 91 Sovereign with the tiny 3.5" door speakers. I can't stand them. This is what I have done to date to boost the sound. I completely disconnected the 4 rear speakers. I placed 2 sealed/marine 5" box speakers and a compact powered sub on the rear shelf. This has really improved the sound.
I still want to increase the size of the front door speakers. About 10 years I owned a '90 Sovereign and I replaced the door card with those from a VDP and I really thought I was able to insert 5.25" Infinity speakers. A tree fell on the car and I removed the front door speakers. I still have them and I don't believe I used them in any other car. Also as you can see from the photo, the door cards came from an 88-90 VDP ( the quality of these door cards were cheap...made of a particle board material nothing like my 91 Sovereign door panels).
My am wondering if I can adapt a door card from a '92-'94 VDP to my '91 Sovereign. Again, I'd do this for hopefully a 5.25" speaker. Incidentally, the on-center diagonal measurement of my Infinity 5.25" speakers is 5.50".

retroren, I've been researching door speaker options for my car also. A 6.5" speaker will fit in the later door panels, but there also is an option to mount the speaker to the metal inner door panel rather than the removable door card. So you might be able to do that without swapping panels. Most car audio guys would recommend mounting to the inner door panel rather than the door card when possible.

Here are some measurements and photos of 3 speakers: Polk 5.25", DLS 6.5" and an oem door speaker from 93 XJ6 VDP.
Outside diameter of the full speaker frame.
Polk 5.25"
DLS 6 3/8"
Jag 6.25"
Outside diameter of the rubber surround of the speaker.
Polk: 4 5/8"
DLS: 5 3/8"
Jag: 4 7/8"
DLS 6.5" resting on top of oem door speaker.
Polk 5.25" on top of oem.
Depth has to be considered but there's room to work with.

XJ6Paul: Thanks. That's a great suggestion regarding a speaker mount directly to the door sheet metal. Frankly, I feel like an idiot not thinking of that option. I hope it will work for several reasons: 1) I might be able to squeeze a speaker that is >5.25" 1a) My door panels are in excellent condition 2) they are OEM Savile Gray (no color change) 3) I don't have to spend money on VDP door cards 4) the 88-91(?) are made of cheap materials with no sprayed on foam sound proofing and the method by which the door panel hold-down clips are attached to the particle board cards is terrible (not like the swivel fasteners that are built into my door cards). Thanks again for opening a closed mind and for all the speaker images and info. I will post my results. As a side note, I'm not sure if you are a purist but I would strongly recommend the addition of the Kenwood powered 8" sub. It's reasonably discreet sitting on the back parcel shelf and it definitely adds to the mid-range base. The box speakers are probably a bit much for most Jaggers. Ren
