Electric Fan bad

Electric Fan bad
I have a question; has anyone converted the mechanical fan and electric fan to a twin fan system in their XJ40?
If you have what did you use for the fan/s? I'm considering a conversion eliminating the mecanical fan and fan clutch and replacing with an
electric fan or double electric fans. This journey started with my A/C system not cool.
My A?C hasn't been cool for a while, the electric fan had crapped out. This morning I had chance to
diagnose the fan problem (jumpering and direct battery connection) and determined that it is bad. While I was under the front of my car playing with the
fan connection I found that my water pump is leaking from the seal Needless to say I will be replacing the water pump and the
electric fan and now is a good time for the conversion.
Thanks,
Roger

Hi Roger,
When one of the original fans in our '93 failed, I replaced both fans with salvaged units from an X308 and only had to change the electrical connectors. As Bob mentioned, you might need to fabricate a means of securing the shrouds to your radiator, but I don't think it would be too difficult. Find some fans/shrouds from a 2003 XJ8 and they should be cheap, should fit in the space you have available, should be easy to rig power to via an adjustable temperature switch and relay, and may last another 10 years or more, especially if you take the time to clean and lubricate the motor shaft bushings.
Cheers,
Don
