electric gremlins
1994 XJ40 GOLD 3.2 Having just purchased and knowing of electric problems the following have shown up 1.N0 headlight full beams because the last owner did a butcher job on the wiring, headlamp module probably faulty, there seems to be a extra wire connected to the drivers side bulbs bypassing the drivers side headlamp module, this wire runs across the top of the radiator and connects to passenger side bulbs direct and alco wired into passenger side module obviously a bodge job2. The headlight full beams bulbs r good i checked them 3.obviously there is a fault in the headlamp modules having read the forums, my question is am i better of buying modules new very expensive or secondhand seen on ebay for 25 sterling. 4.And last how do you remove chrome sill platethat holds door rubber is it glued or r there screws as the rubber is half way out . thanks

Sometimes guys bypass the light modules instead of living with a perpetual bulb failure. That came up on this forum recently. Personally, I'd do the latter rather than the former; but that's just me. The other solution is to replace or repair the module. On this I have no experience, but I have read that others do. I'd search the archives of this and other forums to read up on how that was accomplished (repair, that is.) If the used modules on ebay are 'supposed' to be 'good', I can't imagine it wouldn't be 25 pounds well spent, as I believe OEM modules would almost be cost prohibitive.
As for the sill plate... Again I have no idea. (Aren't I helpful!?) I do know there is a little plastic retainer at both ends. One of mine broke last fall. Is it possible that the "jaguar" plate is flexible enough to slide out, perhaps revealing screws or something? Stab in the dark.
Cheers!
