Essential spares for European rally
Hi chaps,
Myself and two friends have bought a 1990 4.0 Sovereign XJ40 to take on a "banger" rally around Europe in September, travelling approx 2500miles over 7 days. Maybe we're a little mad to choose this as our motor, but we wanted to do it in style
What would you guys suggest taking as essential spares?
Thanks, Mark

Green Flag, RAC, Europe Assistance, or AA cover and a working mobile phone, top the list.
You will have serviced and checked all your hoses and belts before setting off.
Remember to keep all your car documents, log book, insurance, MOT, driving licence in the car, we have random roadside checks and hefty fines for not carrying them.
Same goes for red warning triangle in the boot and a day glo yellow jacket that must be carried in the passenger compartment of the car.
A spare set of all light bulbs and good spare tyre and jack etc. Also a requirement.
And beam deflectors, so you don't blind us at night.
Other than that, it depends on how paranoid you are, in the 8 years with my XJ40 the only thing that has stranded me was a burnt out fuel pump link lead (in tank pump).
Maybe go to a UK Jag dealer and hire a European spares pack, you return it after your trip.
Have a good safe trip, should be fun.
