A fender bender?

From my "parts " experience, usually a different number means there is Some difference. That could be as simple as a different shaped mount hole. Or it could mean that there was an update to make all parts to that date match a certain definition. Comparing my 92 to my 94 I see no difference. I have never had a 90. If the price is right I would try it.

I've searched UK listings for XJ40 front wings and they mostly refer to "early" as up to 1991. Unfortunately none list the specific difference(s) between "early" and the later pattern.
However, there is a supplier of fibreglass replacements who claims "the centre is marked for the repeater lamp but not cut so you can simply cut to suit the type you have fitted. Will fit all XJ40 models."
From this it sounds very likely the only difference between the part number options listed in JEPC is the side repeater cutout.

Asd far as I know, the hole cut for the side repeater is the difference between the various model years.
IIRC, there are three types.
Early cars to VIN 629285 used a rectangular side repeater which was grey in colour with a yellow bulb. Cars from VIN 629286 to VIN 687218 used a square yellow side repeater, and 1994MY cars from VIN 687219 used a recessed X300 style side repeater.
Each version of the front wing has a different hole cut in it for the side repeater to fit into. IIRC, the late cars may even have a recessed area for the side repeater unit to sit more flush with the bodywork.
Of course USA and Canada cars didn't have the side repeater so the VIN changes were much less obvious with the car standing infront of you.
There were also three different Jaguar leaper badges used at these VIN points. With a quick Google of the part numbers they look very similar - presumably they attach differently.
