Fuel Filler Electronics

Fuel Filler Electronics
Hello everyone again! I have yet another question on where to buy a certain item. My Jaguar's fuel filler electronics are broken (bought the vehicle that way) and I'm wanting to restore it so I may lock my fuel cap! If anyone knows where I could buy a replacement that would be great! I have done some digging and I just can't seem to find it. Since I am new to this Jaguar world, I am interested in restoring my car!

Hi Balco,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! We're happy to hear you want to keep your Jaguar functioning properly.
You can download the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) from this forum by following the instructions in this thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...uctions-48194/
Or search for parts at jaguarclassicparts.com, the classic Jaguar parts service of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. Searching there for your 1994 XJ40 comes up with this page:
Fuel Latch Box, Filler Cap and Hoses - Parts For XJ6 & XJ12 from (V)667829 to (V)708757 | Jaguar Heritage Parts UK
Unfortunately, Jaguar does not sell the electric solenoid latch separately - the entire fuel filler latch box must be replaced (Part 1 in the diagram). The part number is BEC7531. Searching that part number at jagaurmerriamparts.com, the website of the Jagaur dealer in Merriam, Kansas, who sell Jaguar original equipment parts online at discount prices, they do show the latch box as still available, but at the discounted but still princely sum of $302.41:

Your best bet may be to find an eBay seller who is parting out a car with the same latch box (all Jaguar XJ40s from VIN 629286 should have the same part, that is, mid-1991 or later). If they don't have the latch box listed on eBay, contact them via eBay's messaging system to ask if they have it.
It may be possible to repair your solenoid. For basic information on how the latch box works, search the Jag-Lovers XJ40 archive for posts by Jaguarpete, and for photos of the circuit board check Rob Evenson's jag-Lovers photo albums (Rob is also a member of Jaguar Forums). Pete's and Rob's cars are earlier models, so their latch boxes may be a little different, but the principle of operation is the same.
Cheers,
Don
