Hi David,

The lightning bolt symbol means a fuse is blown, so test all the fuses in all three fuseboxes (left A-pillar base, center console, and right A-pillar base).

If I recall from another thread, it's not a purge valve but the cruise control dump valve that you are describing. One of the fittings on the valve is the air inlet so that when the valve opens, fresh air can enter and fill the vacuum in the system, which immediately disables cruise control (when the brake pedal is depressed or the cruise control is switched off).

Rough running can have several causes. As a first step, it is worth checking for any stored diagnostic trouble codes. To do so, with the ignition switch in position II (ON) but the engine not running, press and release the VCM button on the trip computer to the right of the steering wheel. Now watch the small display window below the speedometer where the odometer/mileage counter usually appears. You may see a message such as Fuel Fault 24 or FF69 or something else. Write down this DTC exactly as it appears and post it here and we'll try to help.

I Ran across my crankcase ventilation system hose and found out it was cracked halfway through the elbow where it splits off and goes to manifold and oil dip stio and air mass boot. How dumb did I look. Can anyone tell me where I can buy this complete hose at? Thanks.

Armed with the part number, you research availability and pricing from forum sponsors like SNG Barratt, Jagbits, or other sources like fcpeuro.com, rockauto.com, partsgeek.com, jaguarparts.com, etc.

Unfortunately, many parts for the XJ40 have been discontinued by Jaguar and are not available from aftermarket sources either, so the only options are to find a good salvaged part (eBay.com) or to repair the part you have.

That same hose on the 94MY was so different from prior year productions and so limited in production it was one of the motivating factors for my purchase of a parts car that had THAT hose in good condition!

It would probably be possible to fabricate a suitable replacement with two sizes of hose, an appropriate Tee-fitting and clamps.

ya I see what you mean. Do you have a idea on a great relays to replace all these Blue ones? Including the fuel pump relay too?

Ya I found that out the other day. Fues that runs the coil heater and some Else. Then the lighting bolt turn off after replacing it. I did discover the hose from dip stick, mass air flow and manifold was crack in hafe that explains why the car is running rough.

For most of the normally-open 4-pin relays in the XJ40, a suitable replacement is Bosch 0332019103. An online search should turn up multiple sources for these at reasonable prices.

The original relays have both a resistor and diode in parallel with the coil to help protect the output transistors and other sensitive components in your Engine Control Module and other computers from the large voltage spike that occurs whe the magnetic field in the relay coil collapses when it is deengergized. The Bosch relays don't have the diode, but they do have a protective resistor in parallel with the coil. I have not found any currently-available replacement relays that have both a resistor and diode. I have used the Bosch 0332019103 with success in Jaguars, BMWs and other makes.

Thanks Don for the update. I will be posting some new pictures on my car that has been keeping me busy. My air and gas intake are not working great, then I lose spark. I ran my volt meter on the coil and getting and good reading but it won't fire up? This car has sat for 23rs so I got my work cut out for me. Just checked out my pictures and give me a call back here..
