Gas Lid/Door

Gas Lid/Door
Please tell me there is a mechanical gas lid release inside a 88 Sovereign.
I was at the bone yard today and I need that lid for my 90. Of course it is shut and locked, and I searched high and low for a mechanical handle to unlock that. I could not find one . On my 90 its a typical door handle on the floor next to the driver. Help needed as always.

Like Lumppy47 said, there is a little plastic lever in the trunk on the left hand side of the car. Its pretty easy to miss because its small (cant remember if there's a label or not) but its right by the gas cap.
Mine used to stick all the time and wouldnt open so it came in handy. This is why they replaced it in '93 for a more conventional (non lever) setup, but it would lock when the doors were locked.

Well that is seriously unfortunate. Its like a parachuter's backup cord failing.
I think you should be able to get in there with a flat head screwdriver an try and release the little tab.
If you arent too worried about having a locking gas cap, you can just break the little latch that holds it closed, that way you at least have access to fill your car with fuel. Then what you could do is find a later model (93 or 94) with the little thumb tab since your fuel filler flap sits flush with the car.
Otherwise it might take some pretty invasive surgery to get your release handle to work again inside the car.

Sounds like y'all got it figured out, but just in case here's a pic of my '90 model:
The lever on mine is disconnected, I just raised it into place for the pic. All the lever has to do is push the little white plastic latch forward (follow the line of the phillips screwdriver to the top ... close as I could get for a pointer one-handed).
Seems like it would be easy to bend or otherwise "adjust" the lever to contact the latch correctly. I don't bother 'cause all the mechanism is missing in the cockpit area.

My cap stays shut with velcro right now. I am trying to pull another lid off a 88 at the junk yard, which is shut and locked and I was in question if there was a mechanical switch to release it from the inside. From the responses no there isn't.
