Default Gearbox Fault Light XJ40 1993

Hi there !!

i found this forum the best knowledge around internet, here all my questions has been answered, so here i go again !!!!
Car: 1993 xj6 4.0L

since a couple of days im having the TRANSMISSION LIGHT PROBLEM on the dashboard.
there are NO fault codes under de VCM, and car runs perfectly, check fluid in the transmission. Also change to (Sport) and to (1) and to (Normal) mode and nothing happens, light is still there.
Also i have disconnected the battery to reset lights (maybe is just VCM fault codes who get reseted by disconnecting the battery...), but Transmission problem light is still there, so far no problems but the light, any clue ?
should i buy the OBD reader to go deeper or there is some other test that i can make to see why the faulty light is on?

Left fuse box;
Check fuses C2 (trans diagnostic memory) and
C3 main trans fuse, and
Center box no 10 doubt it but still.

That's about as far as I can go,
cheers,

Hello, does the diode on the sport button light up when you press it, this might help give you an indication as to whether it is switching into Sport or not.

If you can get under the car, you might be able to check the electrical cable connection to the trans.

But it would help if one of the techs could dive in, because that's about it for me and electronic auto transmissions.

hi there.
i notices this:
1- the Letters on the gear box base, are iluminated ( Park / Neutral / Reverse ) but the ones that says (D / D /1 / 2 )
2- the switch below the gear shift ( that change Sport / N / 1) has no light
3-in the dashboard i see no iluminated the mode "Sport" Nor the Mode "1". when i change it from the switch below the gear shift. ( and of course the light in the dashboard like there is a problem in the automatic transmission, as mentioned in point 2.
Translator : i went below the car and i could not find any electrical cable connection to the trans.

any advice from here ?

Thank's for your thank's, but I did not really help. (in fact I don't think I helped at all)

However I'm glad that you got the problem sorted.

And this one has been logged, for future refference.

Cheers

Rich
