Gearshift lever, problems with starting

Gearshift lever, problems with starting
Hi Everyone,
I've been having problems lately with the vehicle starting
in the Park position. I have to move the lever down to
Reverse, then back up to get it to turn over. I've been
doing this for quite some time (same on me) and today had a
real problem getting is to start.
Is there an adjustment that can be done? I've looked over
the schematic....
http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk...omatic-gearbox
..and am not sure what to adjust, or what part needs to be
replaced. There is one part that is referenced as the
Linear Gearbox Indicator, but I don't know much about it or
if it has any sort of adjustment.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?
Best regards

That linear switch is on teh RH side of the J Gate set up.
It is removable.
It is able to be cleaned.
I elongate the mount holes in the plastic a small amount, to give a little movement for adjustment. Refit that switch, slide it around on the mounts with the ign ON until the "P" is lit up, and then lock it down.
YES, those switches do fail, RARE, they usually respond well to a clean and adjust.
