High idle at times

New here, hi all. Maybe someone else has had this problem. My 94 xj40 has a fast idle. But that's not all. When coasting, the car will fluctuate between 1500 and 1000 rpm. I did the VCM check and code 19 comes up, which is the 'throttle potentiometer'. It is making the symtoms described inthe manual.
Anyone out there that has worked on this let me know.
The car has 141,000miles.
Thanks,
BTW, great site!!

Ken, XJ or maybe 93 also have this vehicle and are regular posters who will probably be able to point you in the right direction.
Ken would be able to offer competitive parts if required too, so its all good.
Someone will be along to answer you soon no doubt.
Jim

Hi guys, been a while since I've been here, and thanks for all your help. It turned out to be the TPS after all. NO biggie. had it fixed. Just put a fresh set of tires on her and ready for winter.
Again thanks for the suggestions and help. And again, great site.
Tonight I changed the fuel filter and never had this ordeal before. I couldn't stop the fuel from syphoning from the tank!! The gas put quite a burn on my arm before I could get the filter to thread on. Took way too long. Anybody else ever have this happen? If so, what to do next time.
