First things first, WELCOME.

Your 1995 is a 6ltr, and I reckon belongs in the more modern area. Either teh X305 or XJ40 area, which will depend on the actual "build date" of your car. Your year date is right at the change point.

Fear not, one of the lurking moderators will cruise along soon and move it for you/us.

I have not had to do that task on a 6ltr, done many 5.3ltr's and they are a major pain.

Also, not sure if you are LHD or RHD, which makes a big access difference.

The TOP bolt is accessed from under the car, with a series of extension bars and flexible socket joint, so FUN will be had.

The whole job is in fact done from underneath.

The fitment of items of such as cat converters etc makes things awkward, however the 6ltr will have what is known as a "compact reduction drive" starter, and that will be the blessing here.

Thank very much for the advice! Not sure a out what kind of Xj12 I actually have...? Or how to find out. From under the car I can see the starter however it looks as if I have to remove some of the exhaust system to get it out?

Yep, top job, NOT.

Our RHD requires the steering rack to be lowered/removed to give room. Sometimes jacking the engine on the RH side is also needed to give that extra 2mm clearance.

As I said, yours should have the reduction starter motor, which is almost half the size of the original Lucas monster, and would simply fall out when undone.

Identification should be clear on the cars ID/Spec tag. The actual build date should also be on that plate, and that will be invaluable to you as time goes on.
