Ignition Key Cylinder Question

Ignition Key Cylinder Question
The electrical part of my ignition switch is good, but I have to replace the ignition key cylinder in my 1990 XJ.
The question I have is there there a span of years that the cylinders interchange in this car, for example like a cylinder from 90 to 94 will fit, or do I specifically have to buy a ignition cylinder for a 1990? Thanks.

Hi Phydeaux1,
The Jaguar Classic Parts website (jaguarclassicparts.com) is a good place to compare parts diagrams for different model years. It appears that the "Steering Column Lock" barrel is the same for at least the models from VIN 594576 through the '92 models:
For VIN 594576 - 667828
Steering Column Lock - Parts For XJ6 (2.9, 3.2, 3.6, 4.0) from (V)500001 to (V)667828 | Jaguar Heritage Parts UK
The part number is JLM1983, but the circular arrow symbol means the part number has been superseded.
Searching that part number at jaguarmerriamparts.com (the Jaguar dealer in Merriam, Kansas who sells Jaguar parts online at discount prices), I find that JLM1983 has been superseded to part number JLM2145, and that same lock cylinder fits all Jaguar XJs and XKs from 1988 to 2006 !!! It's still available for $112.13. I assume you will have to supply your VIN so the cylinder can be keyed for your car.
What problem is prompting you to replace the cylinder?
Cheers,
Don
