is ignition module for a 88 - 92 car different than for a 93-94 XJ40?
I am looking at various ignition modules advertised on Ebay and I am seeing a part number of DAC10923 listed as fitting a 1988 to 1992 Jaguar XJ6 and Vanden Plas. The seller states "It will NOT work on the XJ6 built before 1988 or after 1992." I see another seller listing a DBC11365 module as fitting 1993-1994 cars.
Can anyone here confirm if the ignition module for the 1988 - 1992 cars is different than the module for the 1993 - 1994 cars? I always thought they all superseded to the same module and therefor were interchangeable on all XJ40 cars.

Hi Steve,
According to the Electrical Guide, the ignition amplifier modules for the 3.6L engines and 4.0L engines from '90-'92 used 5-wires. The modules for the '93-'94 cars used only 4-wires. You can confirm this in the Electrical Guides. If I recall correctly, the modules have 7 pins but not all are used.
However, it looks like the same module part number should work in any 4.0L car: parts.jaguarlandroverclassicparts.com gives no part number for the cars up to VIN 629285, but states that from VIN 629286 the part number was DBC5919 which superseded to DAC10923. For the '93-'94 cars, the part number was DBC11365 which superseded to DAC10923, the same superseded part as for the earlier 4.0L cars. So it is possible that a module from any 4.0L car will work. I remember replacing the amplifier in our '93 with a NOS one but I don't remember the details.
The wiring schematics make it appear that the modules for the 3.6L and early 4.0L cars were wired the same way, so it seems possible that even a module from a 3.6L car could work in a late 4.0L one.
I seem to recall a TSB about removing the amplifier from its mounting plate, rotating it 90 degrees and drilling new holes to mount it in that orientation. I can't remember the exact reason but I think it had something to do with interference from the ignition coil.
Cheers,
Don
