I'm stickin with the XJ40s
I just can't do it as much as a speed freak I am I'm NOT ready to go for an X300 XJR. The people that have mentioned it before I cant agree more that the older Jags def have more of a mystique and class of their own to them! I love old cars and all the real chrome and solid bodies. Not to mention they're the last cough...cough...REAL JAGS. So after I fix the couple things with my XJ40 and sell it soon for far less than what I thought I was going to get it for I'm aiming for one with less miles and all the options I wanted mine to have. I'm def droppin the price to 6500 BO that will be quite negotiable.
I'll be on the hunt in the next month for the following:
1993 XJ40
-Black or BRG (prefer Blk)
-TAN interior
-MUST HAVE SUNROOF
-Less than or around 75K miles
-Heated & memory seats, which are going to be a royal pain in the *** because those were practically on EVERY 1994 XJ40 but I'm stickin with the 93's cuz I cant cope with not having a GLOVE BOX. And I dont like how they redesigned the seats for that year..they made the pattern much wider than the 93's and it's not my style. Not dissin neone with a 94 XJ40 though!
So neone know neone selling one like that or where to find one hit me up! Thanks!

Hey,
I'm glad you will be keeping your Jag .Actually, I like X300s too and what's more I owned one of those beauties too . Nonetheless, I must tell you that late XJ40s are always my faves .You can still feel a classic authentic way of bewitching in X300s too .Well, 6 way gauges ,door trims , door panels,location for A/C control buttons and some buttons sprinkled around the steering wheel . I can't say and feel the same for X308s .
I ascribe from what you said about your seats you should have a base model '93 . '94 XJ12 seats are my faves in regards to the design wise following by Sovereign seats which are vertically striped and stitched lol
X300's engine performs slightly better but not a big deal should you ask me .
It'sa very rare occasion such an XJ40 lover is available like you lol . You know purists never liked XJ40 due to the fact that it looks . I'm strictly against them .Rectangular headlamps, design to the tail lights are awesome

RE: I'm stickin with the XJ40s
I currently own both a late XJ40 and a X300 XJR. I guess the X300 is a better car but as much as I like the XJR I adore the XJ40. The styling is... wounderful, basically,I have the twin headlights but to be honest I would prefer the rectangular ones. It is hard to describe but the forty has more feeling to it. I bought the car almost a year ago for no money at all, no servicehistory and I dont think it has been very well taken care of, but still it has proven to be the most reliable of friends, it never misses a beat. It is resonably fast, does great mpg, it looks amazing... as I said, I adore it

haha more fans of the XJ40 I knew I couldnt be alone. I know what your talking about though Cadillac with traditional Jag enthusiasts not liking the whole rectanglular headlights look and to be honest with you guys way before I ever even bought mine almost 4 years ago I HATED the XJ40s just because of those headlights and tailights and now here we are and it has totally grown on me I love them. Theres not one thing I dont like from the front to the back, from the seats to the interior chrome trim. It's prolly just cuz theres not too many cruisin aroudn nemore, at least in good shape, I can only think of maybe 3 other beat up ones in my Buffalo area I've seen. I love being different with an older car like that. I dont have to worry about 15 more pulling up next to me like a Ford Escape or Toyota Camry....haha.
Thats so sweet that youve got an XJ40 AND one of those X300 XJRs PontusL. I wish I was already done with college and capable of keeping mine and buying the 97 XJR that I want so badly too. OR if I lived in a warm climate Id sell the Jeep and have two year round Jags...that would be HEAVEN ON EARTH...

XJ40 is the ****! Nice to see another student here, I´m a law student at Stockholm university. No problem keeping two jags, the insuransce is quite cheep here in Sweden, but sure, I work really hard at my to jobs to finance the maintanence. The XJ40 is cheep to run but the XJR consumes a lot of fuel, so I´m thinking about trading it for a S-type R. I wont sell the XJ40 though, I guess it is worth around 3000 dollars, and I know I wont find a better car for that kind of money. The registration plate says "PJX 715" so I call it the PJXmobile (sounds a lot better in swedish!).

Nice nice, yup I'm in my third year for my Marketing Degree. It's goin good so far. Just sucks to live in Buffalo, NY with our 6 month winters! I have withdrawls from not driving the Jag for so long you have no idea...BTW, the S-Type R's are def amazing. That would be pretty sick if you ended up with one of those. But if youd be ever so kind to ship your XJR to NY thatd be great, I'll take it off your hands ...hahah. I'm actually supposed to be going to England & Ireland this summer with my mom, thats sorta close to Sweden rite? lol. Hellofa lot closer than the US of A. My plate says HADABENZ. hahah would never go back to a Benz, sticking with Jags for the long haul.

I god one year left in law school, but I´m thinking absout takom some extra courses.
The S-type R is amazing, but suddenly I got this urge for an XJS, we´ll see. I guess it is down to which one pops up first in the local ads. How kind of you to offer to take the XJR off my hands, I´ll think about it
Actually saw a XJ40 Insignia for sale a few days ago, do you have them over there? I have a vague memory that they sold Insignias in the US back in 88-90, here in Europe they sold them 93-94, as a special model with hand stitched dash and special carpets etc. A really nice and quite uniqe car.
For how long are you staying in England? Great place to stay, I like it a lot.
Love that plate on you car! Where can I see some pics?
A few of mine;
Took it offroad;
Outside IKEA;
Out with friends;
Last week, suprised by snowstorm;
But most of the time she looks like this, clean and tidy;

Wuts up. I've never even heard of that Insignia model. That must be really nice, but your right the U.S. usually doesnt get any of the sweet cars you guys have on that side of the world! lol.
You've got about as much mud on your Jag as I did on my Jeep a few weeks back! haha yours looks awesome when it's all cleaned up though. That last pic you posted is perfect looking, almost like a stock dealer photo! Like honestly it looks so perfect that almost makes me want to swap out my block headlights for the earlier XJ40 4-headlight look!! Oh yea and gotta love those surprise snow storms...those are AWESOME right? We get those all the time in Buffalo, NY. And what the heck are the chances that your pic in the snow has a Jeep Cherokee in the background! haha thats craziness.
My mom and I prolly going to be in England about a week or so, she wants to def get up to Ireland too. I hope all goes according to plan and we can go this summer. I've always wanted to just take a whole summer off and go through Europe ever since my much older brother did a few years back. I'd prolly end up staying in Italy though for the rest of my life because Im a Ferrari enthusiast too!!
I got some of my pics in the My Member Photo Gallery. It's page 4, dark green Jag with rims, ya cant miss it! lol.

RE: I'm stickin with the XJ40s
Are you serious...? To buy an entire 88/89 XJ40 for the headlights only instead of just buying the headlights? Are they that expensive? I'd just figure youd take the block ones out and put those in. lol.
And when you say bulb failure modules do you mean just the things that tell you when your bulb is out??

RE: I'm stickin with the XJ40s
ohh man... this conversation is killing me, because i don't know what to do. I have found the sweetest 93 XJ40 sovereign model in a dark moroccan burgundy and it is a real beauty. I love the older models.. they seem to have an air of superiority over the newer models, but that is just me. Only problem thought is the rectangular headlights. I'm a fan of the round ones, but i'm still willing to get it.
I just don't know if a car that old is reliable. I'm still studying and the vehicles is going for around 9,900 australian and it has about 175 000 kms..... its auto and in great conditions....
is this worth it? please advise as i don't know what to do....

RE: I'm stickin with the XJ40s
I´m also a student (with a part time job), I bought the cheapest XJ40 I could find, a -93 Sovereign, no service record and 230.000km. I have driven it for 20.000km and had no major problems. Some minor electric faults like the fans but a friend helped me out with that one so it was a cheap (=free) fix. I know that the headgasket may fail some day, and that the selfleveling suspension may cause problems but so far so good.
My car is very well used, as I said, the cheapeast I could find and no servicerecord or recipts, and it still works just fine.
