Top left, home build 0756 cable
Bottom right, has to become attached to PM4 connector

If it works it is easy to convert a Ford PDU unit to a Jaguar unit and more people would be able to source a PDU for there own car if they would like.

Funny, I really wouldn't have thought there was anyone else trying to build one of these obscure cables right now, but from what I've seen here I'm wrong! So, my 3130-0756-00 currently looks like this:





I currently have all the parts required to make it (not pictured is the rubber seal for the back of the CPC connector, which is currently on order). The main thing I am lacking is info on the wiring connections! I actually started a new thread about this subject, but it looks like this might be the "main" PDU thread.

@Gijzzy if you haven't already, would you be kind enough to share the details of the pin connections of this cable (including any pins which are shorted to each other inside the connectors, which is definitely the case in some of the other cables in my FDS system)?

If it helps anyone, here is a list of the connector parts needed to build one of these cables:

The car end is a 14 Pin Male CPC Connector
Components needed
(TE Connectivity part num / RS part num):

Size 17 Plug Housing, 14-Pin:
206044-1 / 680-6769

Size 17 Cable Clamp/Back Shell:
206070-8 / 709-9723

Type III+ Male Crimp Connectors, Size 16 (Various other types are available for different wire thickness and insulation thickness, make sure you choose the right ones for whatever wire you are using):
66103-8 / 238-094

Wire Entry Seal Kit, Size 17, 14 Pin:
213919-2 / n.a.

The PDU end is an 8 Pin Neutrik "Neutricon" Connector
Components needed
(Neutrik part num / Mouser part num / Farnell part num):

8 pin female solder connector kit:
OSC8F / 568-OSC8F / 1390188

Grey Cable Boot:
BSP-8 / 568-BSP-8 / n.a.


It turns out Neutricon and CPC connectors aren't very cheap, and the above has cost around £40, which is quite a lot for a cable - or maybe I'm just tight!

The diagnostic CPC connector in the XJ40 looks like this:



As you can see it has pins 2, 9, 10 and 13 populated. These pins are as follows:
2: Battery Voltage
9: Serial L Line
10: Serial K Line
13: Ground

Which I assume means that at most the CPC end of the 3130-0756-00 should contain these four pins. The critical info I need is where these wires lead to in the Neutricon connector, and whether there are any pins of the Neutricon connector that are bridged inside the connector. From what I've worked out so far, I think it's probably pins 9 and 10 (the data lines) of the CPC go to pins 2 and 4 of the Neutricon, but I'm not certain which way around. Another useful piece of info would be whether the original 3130-0756-00 wire uses sheilded cabling, and if so whether the shielding is connected at either end to a pin.

meine fds hat eine später datierte toshiba cd rom, die bereits atapi ist, die fds ist von 1997 ... ist sie austauschbar mit einer anderen cdrom aus dieser zeit, die ebenfalls atapi ist?

Is there a reason you need specific the 1055 CD? Is the 626/7 I send you not working? I have 1055 on my laptop, so I can send it to you by e-mail and you need to burn it on a CD (it is a .iso file so you need a program like "PowerISO" or something similar to burn it).

In my opinion JTP 626/7 and JTP627/10 will do all the diagnostics 1055 can.

And again a working Jaguar PDU in Germany. It never gets bored to get a PDU or FDS 2000 up and running again.

I would like to buy PDU introduction VHS tape and training VHS tape. Is there anyone here who would like to sell copies to me? I also have some original Jaguar software that I can swap for PDU tapes.

Hi All,

I’ve just joined after researching for info on the FDS2000 system which I have purchased before Christmas. I’ve just spent all day cleaning it up and inspecting all the various leads and interfaces etc.

I read this thread with great interest and have already learnt a lot about what issues occur. The battery cover on the PDU is missing on mine, but have ordered a new battery based on the info here. I guess I’ll have to make a battery cover.

I plugged the base unit in and it powers up, but as many here have experienced the CD-ROM doesn’t seem to work and I managed to manually eject the caddy, discovering that I have 2 ver32 CD’s! I guess I’ll need to do the conversion with one of Gijzzy’s PCB’s

I’m a Ford guy with a handful of Mk1 and 2 Mondeo’s, a Mk6 Escort Cabby and a few others, but appreciate the Jaguars as a close friend has 3 modern Jags, including a rather special black Super V8

I received the new battery today and fitted it and it charges in the PDU from the base station and powers the PDU, so that’s good! CD-ROM however is dead, so I hope I can get a conversion board from Gijzzy

The original Sony cd drive needs to 'warm up' and takes around 30 minutes, you can try that first if you can get it to work.

Have dealt with enough of these Sony-bus caddy drives to know it’s not a dirty head issue. The issue stems from bad capacitors on the drive’s PCB. The classic Apple community is well aware of this issue (Apple’s external AppleCD uses a Sony drive like our PDUs). Usually with enough patience, “warming up” the drive helps immensely, sometimes power cycles will allow it to operate long enough to load data and get the PDU operational.

Either get the conversion board and use a standard ATA drive, or open the original drive up and replace the surface mount capacitors. There are a few guides online if you’re fairly decent at soldering. I revived mine, but also have a stack of spares so I don’t quite need the conversion board yet.

I haven't had any experience with this particular drive but replacing capacitors in aging electronics is akin to doing an oil change.
I've successfully revived both computer monitors and my audio equipment by replacing puffy caps.

i had that with a 90’s Kenwood hi-if, couldn’t match the capacitors though as they were all strange values! Gijzzy is sorting me out with a conversion board! I may then try to repair the Sony unit, I used to do MIL-Spec soldering so shouldn’t be an issue.

Due to high demand, I had to take the production line into action. In a few months I have send to UK, Hungary, Germany and someone local in the Netherlands

Based on what you sold, I bet you have a better idea than anyone of how many PDUs are still in operation worldwide. So what is your guess?
