Default Looking for a replacement door lock actuator and trying to figure out what fits.

So my 94 XJ6s vin SAJHX1745RC68909 left rear door lock actuator has moved on to its next life. It will electrically lock but not unlock and is very difficult to manually unlock.

That said I know the 94 can be an odd duck and if I go to Jagbits it shows the 93-94 are the same. I’ve found elsewhere where 90-94 are the same 88-94 and even 93-2002 as the next 2 generations are also the same part but may or may not have a the same part number.

New the part is NLA and if it was its $500. Give or take. And used I’ve found it from $25 to $125 plus shipping.

I would think the XJ6 and the XJ12 from 93-95 for the 12 would most likely be the same but I don’t know.

I’m just trying to pin down what models do have the same part matching numbers or not.

anyone have one for sale? Or know what fits.

thanks

Joe

I'll have a look in my stash Joe, not sure I have one though ...

I know a member on here who might have one though, I'll have a look to see if I can find him (i.e. remember his username!) - he sold me a door handle or two over the years before I figured out how to stop them breaking ..

ok remembered him - Robert Laughton - he will probably have one ...PM him

No worries, I sent him a message. Its been broken for a few weeks now a few more won't matter. Its too cold outside to work on it anyway. Ive does some looking its a 2 year part as far as I can tell so if he doesn't have one it may be a while unless I want to rip it out, which I may do.

Apparently Nick had a post about these suckers not working in the cold weather and Don suggested the cold temps can warp the door trim... jamming the silver plunger etc. ....in the archive check it out

I think its hot weather and/or heat from the sun that warps the plastic upper door trim panels, which could definitely be the case in New Mexico.

Was it Nick or one of our other members who recently posted about replacing his actuators with cheap universal ones from eBay?

There was a post about the replacement recently but can't remember who either ..no doubt an archive search would pull it up ...

Ill look for that. This one used to be iffy when it got cold but now even on a warm day it crap. Though it still locks electrically so maybe. Ill have to wait for a warm day to pull the panel.

About all I can manage at this time of year is a new wiper blade and the one I bought (Rain-x) is already a pain in the *** as it clunks on the windscreen on the RH swipe because the stupid design is too beefy on the ends ...last one of these I'll buy

Joe, sorry for the delay. The weather here is terrible. Wouldn't you know, I just scrapped that '94.

I did find these shown, but there's no part numbers. Anyone know? If you think it's right, I'll test.

Thanks,
Rob

I’m not sure. I havent pulled mine apart and have yet to find a good picture so I can’t tell. I keep looking or maybe the weather will get a little better and I can take the door apart. My workspace is the great outdoors and I don’t like pulling on fragile interior parts when they are cold.

Thanks for getting back though Robert.

joe

Now I am looking on my computer vs a phone I can see they are just the actuators LOL . Hopefully I get better weather and can get the panel off and see.

ive tried a few different blades the high dollar bendy ones on new cars just don’t seem to work well so I just stick with the everyday Bosch blades.

I wanted to follow up on this.

Had a warm day and took the panel off. I removed the actuator and it was working but the mechanism for the door lock was super stiff. I blasted the assembly with some brake clean and then re-lubed it with a light silicone working the mechanism for a few minutes and then reassembled it and its been working fine since then.

Always best to take a look before shotgunning parts.

Joe

I know mine will be due for this treatment soon. Is it much work to remove the door panels? It's winter in Minnesota now, so if there's brittle plastic in there, I'll do my best to put this off until spring..

Hi Mike,

Removing the interior door trim panels is easy on an XJ40. These videos show you what's involved. Note that some XJ40s also have a screw hidden behind the puddle lamp lens, and I think all of them have the screw hidden behind the pleats of the corrugated rubber defrost vent duct at the upper forward corner of the front door.

Cheers,

Don

Good stuff. Thanks Don. I'm glad I asked. That's actually fairly complex. I did not expect so many components to the door panel!

Default door actuator. 93 XJ40

Mine did the same. Firstly when I removed the door trim and cleaned up the complete locking mechanism and made operation much more effective. It was stiff and dry. Sadly the jaguar lock actuator was ruined. The replacement price was ridiculous even for an old one. From Ebay I sourced a generic set of heavy duty actuator motors really cheaply. Tested the strength with respect to the other woking doors and it was plenty strong enough. Mounting required two holes to be drilled and use of the clamps and rods provided in conjunction with the existing push rod. I cut the existing connector and wires from the faulty actuator and connected then with the new actuator wires sleeving the joins with waterproof heat shrink sleeving and tying the cables up so they connector and wires do not sit in dampness during rainy season. I cleaned up all the other door mechanisms also and have had no further lock or unlock fails in 2 yrs. It is fidley, but take your time and test it well before you re install the trim. Also worth cleaning up the lock assemblies while in there. I flushed with WD40, wiped off the muck and spray, left it to dry overnight then lubricated with just a little spray lithium grease before closing. Great result, quiet door latching and locking.
