low-beam headlights won't work
I have a 1988 XJ6 Jaguar. I'm having a problem with my low-beam headlights...they went out and won't come on. I changed both low-beam bulbs but the headlights still won't work. However, the high-beams work on all four lights. Has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions on how to get my headlights to work?

Welcome to the forum.
Seat covers......how much money do you have?
There are a number of avenues one can take; there is "frugal" or "it doesn't matter"... which are you?
Frugal is eBay or visiting you're local wrecker yard and seeing if you get lucky. You can also post "Want to Buy" announcements in various Jaguar forums to see what you can scare up.
Or, if you are interested, let us know if you want a retail solution for seat covers, there are a few very reputable retails that do excellent work.
I'm making an assumption you want to replace the leather in your vehicle, is this correct? Also, know what your interior color code is to ensure match.
Regarding the headlights, there are a few possibilities. First that comes to mind is the BFM's (Bulb Failure Modules) located in the engine bay, near the headlamps, one on each side of the radiator. The other item would be your Hi/Low beam lever on the steering column. I doubt (could be wrong) both BFM's are out at the same time, so I would lean towards the signal lever. I saw some on ebay this morning and they were reasonably priced. I've never had a problem with mine, so hopefully someone who has will chime in.
And.....
Check the fuses, there are two in each fuse panel (right & left) specific to the headlamps. Should be #4 & #14 (each side).
Good luck

Thought I would throw my two bobs worth in....
'88 xj40's came out with the Square type headlamps so if you have the Quad style then it is very likely that someone at some time has converted them....
If this is the case then your electrics will have been modified to accommodate this. Are you able to check if the wiring directly behind the headlamps looks "standard" or does it look like it's been cut and spliced? I know this doesn't help very much to fix your problem but in order to do so you may have to chase all your wiring looking for a possible fault.... hopefully it's just a fuse or a relay.

Mrspretty,
Sorry about that....
I guess I wasn't clear on what you wanted. Did you want seat covers to go over your leather.... or did you want to buy new leather to replace your current leather coverings?
For coverings to go over your existing leather, shop Ebay or Amazon, read the reviews before purchasing.
If you want new leather, let us know and we'll provide sources for you to shop.

I'd be interested in both options Rob. I went on ebay before but I didn't see any seat covers that matched my vehicle (that is unless I didn't know what I was looking for)
: )
Everytime I entered the info for my car they didn't have anything that matched it. I went to the junkyard and saw a few jags but the seats were awful. o that leaves me open to any suggestions. I did however see a leather dye product on amazon.
any help you give would be great

Mrspretty,
Here's a few suggestions: (I have no affiliation with any of these retailers)
If you want new leather coverings try this place:
Seat Upholstery, Carpet Sets, Converitble Tops, Headliners, Door Panels and Rubber Seals for Jaguar XJ Series Sedans from World Upholstery & Trim
They're expensive, about $1,500 for front seat set, but it's real leather and will match your color code. It would be best to have them mail you a swatch(s) before purchase.
For coloring and leather restoration products try this place:
ORDER Products | Leatherique Restoration Products
There are many jaguar owners who will recommend this retailer for both dye and leather cleaning and preservation.
If you are budget conscious and still want leather seats, as mentioned before, be diligent in searching Ebay.....daily, they go quickly. Also, you may want to create a "Wanted To Buy" post on this site and other jaguar forums.
I found these covers on Ebay, they are a imitation leather, but look well made, but are higher priced than a lot of slip covers you can find, be sure to scroll the entire page:
Jaguar XJ6 1979 1994 s Leather Custom Fit Seat Cover | eBay
Hopefully, some other members will come up with suggestions. I have heard of Pauls Jaguar in South Florida is another source for leather seats.
If you have time, you can go to this site:
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
and start calling the various salvage yards listed in the search results. You might get lucky, most of the time the seats are in fair to good condition, but if they are just soiled with no major tears, you can use the aforementioned restoration products to restore them.
