Default maf sensor

Hi am changing air filter and removed the air box, looked in the maf and the wire "curtain" is broken off about 50 percent looks like somethings been pushed in there at some stage will this affect engine performance/does the maf need to be replaced??

I believe that mesh curtain is just a debris filter to stop particles entering the system. Of course it's better to have it complete, but AFAIK it doesn't affect the functionality of the MAF.

Thanks lawrence, the maf is a dbc5917 , is there any other maf that can be used, some of them listed for land rover 3.9 are relatively inexpensive and new on ebay.

I'm not sure, but I believe the MAF sensor fitted to your 91 is a Lucas 5am. From what I understand, the 3am and 5am are direct fit equivalents. The earlier 3am were made for Lucas by Hitachi and the 5am were made by Lucas under license. The 5am may have improved plating in the contacts, but afaik, that's it.

These are fitted to lots of other vehicles. You might have better luck searching for 5am or 3am rather than by Jag part number.

Yes mine is a 5am , locally they rebuild the maf for the rover 3.5 rangey, and on ebay they quote dbc5917 as an equivalent part number. Tempting to get one of them.
