Default Need replacement fan

ROR MY XJ40 SOVEREIGN build date 12/91 658822 engine number 157232 four litre. The old one had two blades break off. Anyone know where to get something good value and not too expensive?

Is it worth it to get a second hand one?

mickvic:
I don't see why a used fan wouldn't work. I'd check with one of the vendors and scour the internet for a good price. Ebay might work for this one. Or, I'd just call Gary at Jagbits...

Cheers,
Scott

Slightly intrigued as to what happened when the two blades flew off, at what would be fairly high speed.

No reason not to go second hand, if you are simply bolting on a fan to the existing coupler.

For perma drive, find one that fits and pulls air in the correct direction, i.e. behind the rad. sucks rather than blows.

Nothing more peeving than fitting a fan with the blades canted in the wrong direction, ( kind of like watching your vacuum cleaner blowing the crud all over the place). Useless.

Thanks gents. When the blade came off at 100k there were some nasty bumps and bangs down the body as it exited the rear. I pulled over and saw fluid exiting the radiator and a nasty gouge in it. I also noticed that the fan wa actually rubbing on the radiator frame as it circulated. This would have caused the breakage, but it wasnt something I noticed when seeing the car idle picking it up. The rad could have been out of position due to the fact there were no radiator mount bushes present, ether upper or lower meaning the radiator was free to move round. An expensive situation, new radiator and probably new fan. The cost of the second hand fan is less of course, and there are local suppliers to me both new and second hand. SNG barrett from uk is cheaper but with the cost of postage it works out identical to what you can buy locally.
Meanwhile the battery has died..predictable. In a way Im glad ive saved this car from the turkeys who had it for twelve months. I hope shes good to me if im good to her.
