New Cheap Brake Accumulators!
#21
It was a bit of a bear to get off since the ABS valve body is mounted on rubber insulators, so when I would really crank on the ball it would twist the entire assembly. But I was able to steady the valve body with my left hand and torque on the ball with my right using a male hex key socket in the end of the ball. I didn't need to pound on the ratchet handle, just really push and it popped loose.
A LOT of brake fluid came out of the old ball when I screwed it off, several ounces I'm sure. So I think the ball was completely shot and partially full of fluid.
To put the new one on, the instructions said to lubricate the o-ring with brake fluid, then screw on and tighten to 46Nm.
Once installed, upon starting the engine both the ABS and BRAKE warning lights were initially lit, then the ABS light went off after a few seconds, and the BRAKE light went off after a few more. After that, I pumped the brake pedal repeatedly and was no longer seeing an intermittent BRAKE warning light as I had. So I'm hoping this fixes it!
Thanks for the tip on the much cheaper part!
